venous insufficiency and sitting issues

Posted by arflmi33 @arflmi33, 1 day ago

Hello, I am new to this group. I am wondering if anyone else has this issue that I am having. I have recently been diagnosed with both venous insufficiency (both legs) and peripheral neuropathy (both legs). I am still walking around fine and enjoy walking and think that walking really helps with both. But sitting... it is getting tough. If I try to sit for an hour at a restaurant with family or friends, I find myself feeling seriously uncomfortable. Has anyone figured out a way to work around this or deal with it in a way that makes sitting more doable? I am also having trouble finding compression socks that work for me, but will save that for another time to avoid too long a post. Thank you in advance!

I don't know anything about this condition, but until you find someone who can actually help, you appear to have little choice but to stand up, maybe on an alarm, every 10-15 minutes and walk around to restore circulation. You may have to accept that, just like some of us who get sore lying in bed on one side might experience, say due to an inflamed/arthritic hip joint, you just have to lump it and turn over...or in your case, stand and walk for two minutes.

Have you had your cardiovascular health checked? No mitral valve prolapse or regurgitation? No ischemia, no formal diagnosis of peripheral vascular disease? Systolic and diastolic pressures inside of the 'normal' ranges?

I had been having problems with my legs feeling heavy and my feet going numb. I was unable to walk more than 20 feet without my feet going numb. After various tests were done for nerves, blood flow, etc., I was diagnosed with venous insufficiency in both legs. I, too, had problems finding compression stockings that worked for me. After trying many brands/types, I found a brand that are easier to put on, relatively comfortable and work really, really well. The brand name is "Skineez". You might want to try them. I originally found them at Walmart but have also purchased them on Amazon. They are probably available at pharmacies, as well.

BTW, part of the numbness issues had to do with my feet. As it turns out, I needed to be fitted for custom orthotics in my shoes.

I wish you well.
