Unidentified abdominal pain
I wasnt sure where to ask this, but I've had severe abdominal pain for 16 years. Pain radiating from my back all the way around and sharp upper right abdomen pain. Lasted a few hours-a day for 16 years a couple times a year. Then recently i had an episode that went off and on for two weeks straight. Now when it happens theres pressure all around my abdomen and back, and sharp pains randomly around my torso, no sharp pain felt when they push on my abdomen, all blood and urine tests good, xray and ultrasound show nothing. Doesnt seem to be linked to eating seems to happen at random. Anyone experienced anything like this?

@singlemom86 Hello and welcome to Connect. Have you heard about pain from tightness in the fascia? Our bodies can develop tight patterns from our habits or injuries or surgical scars and then not be able to move properly from fascial restrictions and it causes pain and compression of tissues or nerves. My physical therapist treats me for this with myofacial release therapy. You can find a lot of information in our discussion about myofascial release and a provider search on the myofascialrelease.com website. You will need a therapist trained in these special techniques, and you can do therapy without knowing the exact source of the problem. The therapist can feel where the tissue restrictions are in the body with their hands. It sounds like you have discussed this with your doctor with no answers. Some doctors embrace MFR therapy and others don't know about it. I have done MFR a lot of years and it has helped me. There are other members here who also utilize this therapy. It helps by releasing tight tissue, realigning the body and allowing circulation to improve to take away stored waste products.
Hard to give medical advice, but I had undiagnosed gallbladder problems for years. One day ended up in ER a couple hours after eating breakfast at restaurant that was extremely greasy. Gallstone attach can mimic heart problems and ER checked out heart. No ultra scan was done in ER because they were concern about heart. Heart showed no problems and pain went away, so sent home. Follow up with primary dr and no answer. Next time had attach, got in to see dr while it pain and turned out to be gallstones. Had gallbladder removed and no more attacks.
My understanding is it is hard to diagnosis gallstones unless seen while having a attack.
I’ve been having upper abdominal pain since August and I have yet to figure out why. The pain alternates from upper left side to upper right side. The pain comes and goes throughout the day and sometimes radiates to my upper back. The pain is a crampy stabbing type of pain. Food doesn’t make worse normally. I’ve also had significant weight loss this year I have loss 23 lbs unintentionally. I’ve had an upper scope and colonoscopy done both were normal. CT scan in September was normal. I recently had a duplex ultrasound done which showed possible median arcuate ligament syndrome but it also showed stenosis in the celiac and super mesentery artery. I’m waiting to get a ct angiogram done. Any advice because the pain is starting to get worse and I don’t what else to do. I’ve also had my gallbladder out 6 years ago.
Hi @amm97, I wanted to add your post to this discussion so you could see that others have had the same abdominal issue with undiagnosed pain. So I have read some of your other post and you had stated that this first started as chest pain and now it has moved to abdominal pain with it radiating to your back at times, is that correct?
Do you have any other digestive issues like loose stool, vomiting, or some sort of resent trauma?
Yes I had chest pain first then I had a bit of a break then of all of sudden I started having abdominal pain. I have lost 23 pounds since last April my appetite hasn’t really changed besides that now I’m eating smaller portions because I get full easier. I occasionally have nausea but not that often.
@amm97 It sounds like you are on a merry-go-round, going nowhere! Have you been to the ER when the pain was at it’s worst? (Have someone drive you, don’t take yourself!). Also, try keeping a daily journal: what you eat, when pain starts and severity of pain, does it radiate, what you were doing when pain started. Anything that will give a picture to your doctor. Can you do that?
Yes the last time it was really bad I went to the ER but nothing found. I feel like it’s a waste of time to go because when I go nothing is found. Thank you for the idea of the journal I’m going to start doing.
Sounds like you have had the imaging tests that would of found any GI problems.
Ask dr if they checked for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) ?
I would assume you have had blood tests. Did the tests include checking liver enzymes? The liver test would be ALT and AST.
I wish you look in finding the cause.
I have had my liver checked multiple times due to it be extremely high back in September. I will have ask about the SIBO. Thank you!
I've been having constant upper abdominal pain, and left flank pain for over 6 months now. I've had numerous CT scans done and even a colonoscopy. Nothing has been found. The pain is pretty persistent and feels as though someone is wringing my organs out like a washcloth. No pain medication seems to help, and not even morphine from when i was in the hospital. The only thing they have found was that there is blood in the urine, and my liapse levels have been increasing. They sent me home from hospital with my liapse levels at 388. I was reffered to a urologist and the urologist did an ultrasound and seen nothing wrong with bladder or kidneys, but my OBGYN now says my testosterone is raised due to having PCOS. Im 25 years old and im living in constant pain that no one seems to care about. The only thing they tell me is that is GI related because i have a problem with impaction, but this is far from that type of pain. This pain hovers below and in my rib cage, and wraps around like a band its very sharp and stabby feeling. Sleeping at night is a nuisance because no matter how I lay it causes the pains ive tried propping myself up, and sleeping with numerous pillows. What could be going on? And what should be my next step? Please help.
