Toddler has had fevers for over 3 weeks. No one knows why.

@marriedto41- I understand how frightened you and your wife must be. It is good that you will see a rheumatologist. May I ask if your son has bloodshot eyes and reddened lips and young? Peeling skin?
I have experience in Pediatrics from my past. To me the combination of the symptoms and the lab findings point to something called Kawasaki’s Disease. Most common in very young children, could possibly be triggered by a virus. I guess you can include it in rheumatic diseases - vasculitis, inflammation of the blood vessels. It is not easy to diagnose at once, it has to be followed with labs and exams and even echocardiogram. Please keep us up to date after your visit Thursday!

Kawasaki was discussed as a possibility but he doesn’t have most of the symptoms described for the disease so they ruled it out. His echocardiogram and EKG’s are also normal. But thank you for your input.

I’m just checking back with you- how is your son doing with his fevers now?
What other testing do your doctors recommend?
I hope all is well.

My son has been fever free since the end of August however, he is being treated for fluid around his heart. Apparently the virus he had caused inflammation in his body and it reacted by creating this fluid. We've been treating him with daily doses of Motrin. The fluid is slowly going away. We have another cardiologist appointment on Thursday where they'll do another echocardiogram. Hopefully it'll be much improved. We can't wait for our son to be 100% healthy. Thank you for asking about him.

@marriedto41 - I am glad that your son has a diagnosis- and one that can be treated. It must be a relief to see him improving.
Viruses certainly can cause more damage than what one assumes- especially summer viruses in my opinion.

May I ask how old your grandchild is? Have the doctors given any diagnosis or tests for the child?

What would make a child run a high temp each month for a year?
