Tighness and pressure post robotic lobectomy: Will this pass?

Posted by yelenab @yelenab, Feb 11 4:57pm

I am 11 weeks post upper left lobe removal (lobectomy). Cancer free and very grateful. I would like to know if anyone else experienced tightness and pressure (constant) below breast area . I am not taking any meds, walking and doing light weights but the discomfort is always there. Heat and lying down makes it better. Dr, surgeon and physio are saying its normal and will pass. Anyone had that experience. Just needing a bit of reassurance. Thanks.

Same with me. Now cancer free and very grateful . I'm 6 months post lower right lobectomy. Exercising is very important, both pulmonary and general fitness. Pacing oneself also very important. I'm no longer in pain of course, but I still feel a pressure where the surgery took place, if I've overdone things, the pressure feels clamp-like. I also can't find the right bra to wear. The band of the bra is always a problem now. Discomfort. I believe recovery takes a good 12 months, but regardless, I'm also expecting to have some ongoing discomfort. To no longer have lung cancer makes me feel the luckiest person in the world.
I wish you all the best, and everyone who has gone through this major surgery.

@yelenab, I hope you've been keeping up with the helpful responses to your question. A couple more weeks have passed since you orignally posted. How is recovery going? Is the tightness getting better?

I'm also 6 months after RLL robotic surgery. Yes those are similar to my experience too. With increase mobility the tightness will improve with time. Keep up with exercises and listen to your body. You'll know if you are overdoing things. I found one size bigger sports bra was helpful in the beginning. I feel the same, some discomfort here and there is minor. So grateful to be a survivor . Courage, faith and positive attitude will keep you strong and resilient. Wish you all the best .

@colleenyoung thanks for reaching out and checking in. The tightness and pressure are still there and there are moments when I think its better. Apart from that, I am walking, doing light weights, even looking after grandkids. Doing life just in discomfort. Hopefully will start to ease off soon.
