Tighness and pressure post robotic lobectomy: Will this pass?
I am 11 weeks post upper left lobe removal (lobectomy). Cancer free and very grateful. I would like to know if anyone else experienced tightness and pressure (constant) below breast area . I am not taking any meds, walking and doing light weights but the discomfort is always there. Heat and lying down makes it better. Dr, surgeon and physio are saying its normal and will pass. Anyone had that experience. Just needing a bit of reassurance. Thanks.

Same with me. Now cancer free and very grateful . I'm 6 months post lower right lobectomy. Exercising is very important, both pulmonary and general fitness. Pacing oneself also very important. I'm no longer in pain of course, but I still feel a pressure where the surgery took place, if I've overdone things, the pressure feels clamp-like. I also can't find the right bra to wear. The band of the bra is always a problem now. Discomfort. I believe recovery takes a good 12 months, but regardless, I'm also expecting to have some ongoing discomfort. To no longer have lung cancer makes me feel the luckiest person in the world.
I wish you all the best, and everyone who has gone through this major surgery.

1 Reaction@yelenab, I hope you've been keeping up with the helpful responses to your question. A couple more weeks have passed since you orignally posted. How is recovery going? Is the tightness getting better?
I'm also 6 months after RLL robotic surgery. Yes those are similar to my experience too. With increase mobility the tightness will improve with time. Keep up with exercises and listen to your body. You'll know if you are overdoing things. I found one size bigger sports bra was helpful in the beginning. I feel the same, some discomfort here and there is minor. So grateful to be a survivor . Courage, faith and positive attitude will keep you strong and resilient. Wish you all the best .

2 Reactions@colleenyoung thanks for reaching out and checking in. The tightness and pressure are still there and there are moments when I think its better. Apart from that, I am walking, doing light weights, even looking after grandkids. Doing life just in discomfort. Hopefully will start to ease off soon.

3 ReactionsYes! My doctor prescribed Robaxin (a muscle relaxer) and Gabepentin (for nerve pain). I took them at different times until I didn't need the medications any more (about 12 weeks). The muscle tightness was pretty intense.

I had robotic surgery nine months ago. The stiffness and pressure have desipated quite a bit, but for me, is still there. I don’t take medication for this and haven’t for more than 7 months. It takes time; be well!
@yelenab Hi I'm 11 months post op same op robotic right lower resection lobectomy... Still tight around op site really painful at times all perfectly normal apparently bloating stomach also... I. On pregabalin 200mg x2 daily... I hope it gets better for you I'm sure it will...
70 year old female and worked out my entire life. Had right middle robotic lobectomy 8 weeks ago. I am presently cancer free. Started back my HIIT classes at 3 weeks out. Difficult to say the least. But now seem to be doing ok although my incision sites become sore and I get breathless. It is important to me to keep moving and staying in shape to get through this.
@cglover47 I had my robotic surgery June 24th. Most of my post surgery issues have dissipated.
I stopped all numbing and pain pills 5 days later. on occasion I do get in-between the breastbone area tightness but, i ignore what I call phantom pain..
Occasionally I have sympathy pains in the area where my lower lobe was removed. I ignore that also. I also am now back into excersisng again
Welcome @ladygardener , I'm glad that you are feeling better. Pain like that can be debilitating. How long ago was your surgery? Do you still have twinges of pain, or is that all resolved?
