Switching from brand Coumadin to generic warfarin
My husband is on Coumadin for a artificial valve. Coumadin is no longer being manufactured and was put on warfarin. His INR is high and he is having a hard time adjusting his count. I wander if anyone else is having this problem.

Hi @ann78, I moved your question to the Heart & Blood Health support group https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/heart-blood-vessel-conditions/
You're right that the brand-name medication Coumadin has been discontinued by its manufacturer. However, the active blood-thinning ingredient, warfarin, remains widely available through various generic manufacturers. While generic warfarin works the exact same way as Coumadin, different manufacturers have slight variations in inactive ingredients.
This might be something to discuss with your pharmacist. Pharmacists are helpful members of your health team and often overlooked. 🙂 Have you discussed the different generic otpions with your husband's pharmacist?
Yes, he is working with a cardiology nurse to come up with right dosage. He has a machine to test at home until he comes up with correct INR.
