On the average, how many kidney transplant patients leave hospital with surgical drain and how long they have to use it?

Good morning from Canada
I had a liver transplant in October 2020 in Vancouver BC. I know things are a bit different in Canada than in the States, but I'm pretty sure that some protocols are the same. I was discharged on day 5. I had 4 drains, 2 on each side. All of my drains were removed on day 3 while still in the hospital. I had 3 removed at one time and the last one the next day. I had a lot of leakage after and required bandaging for about 2 weeks following. Because I live fairly close to the hospital I was able to go home and commute into the hospital. Another thing is that I had my transplant during covid so things were different so most of my post transplant follow-ups were done via Telehealth and zoom. Don't over think everything. I liken the experience to that of having a baby. When it's all done you don't remember the pain you will only remember how amazing you feel. 💞

Very informative
Was the post transplant care giver involved in managing the leakage / drain after you went back home?

Thanks !!

Good morning,
My daughter came by every day on her way home from work and would change my gauze pads. The surgeon said that it wasn't a major concern and mostly keep them covered to help prevent infection.
Good luck with your journey. May your God bless you
