Sunscreen

Posted by hello1234 @hello1234, Oct 18 5:21am

Hi Transplant Family!
I am having a problem finding sunscreen that I like. Do you have a favorite sunscreen for your face, scalp and a different one for your body? Have you tried one of the new scalp sunscreen sprays? Does your face sunscreen leave a white cast to your face or have you tried some of the new tinted versions? Do you
use the mineral only version?
I didn't know that sunscreen was going to be so complicated. Please let know the brands and types that are working well for you. With all my MOHS surgeries, I want to be diligent with my sunscreen.
Thanks everyone!! ☺️

Hi @pgruetz 😊
Thank you for the "Blue Lizard" recommendation! That's another brand I never heard of and I like that it has healthy ingredients. I have enjoyed your very positive posts on Mayo Connect and I know you are a avid swimmer so I assume "Blue Lizard" is probably water resistant too! I will check it out.

@pgruetz I read that you like this sunscreen because you swim and it stays on. How about when sweating heavily? I sweat easily, and like to hike. Do you know if the Blue Lizard will adhere when sweating during hot humid outdoor activities in humidity during summer?

@rosemarya good question I’m not sure but it blends into your skin very well I’d imagine it wouldn’t be a problem because it doesn’t wear off swimming probably one of the best ones I’ve used

Hello!
I am a liver transplant … just had 5 year anniversary!
My dermatologist recommended Aveene… not Aveno… Aveene… Ulta and I think Target had it. There is one you can use for face and then one for body. It is also kid friendly !
I have also used the tinted Elta and just the cream form.
Sunscreen is our best friend!

@alh4 Congratulations on your FIVE year transplant anniversary! Very exciting. Thank you for all the great information. I never heard of Avene sunscreen before so it's great to know that your dermatologist recommended it. I will definitely check it out! I am going to live in sunscreen for the rest of my life! 😊

When outdoors in the summer, I wear SPF clothing, hat and gloves. I love to go bicycling and after skin cancer surgery on my nose, I now wear a leather sunblock nose cover. It straps on to my glasses. Looks weird but I feel much safer using it.

@bike123 Congrats on the biking! And thanks for the heads up about the spf clothes and nose cover. Do you also use a sunscreen on your face when biking?

I use drmtlgy tinted moisturizer or elta md tinted moisturizer every day as face moisturizer and sun protection. Both good quality dermatology recommend. They are spf 46 and give protection daily when out and about. Sometimes if i want more makeup coverage, I'll mix in some foundation but the tinted daily gives decent basic coverage for running errands etc. If I plan to be outside in sun all day like yard work, beach etc, I will put on a pure sunscreen. I like the nuetrogena face sunscreen. Non oily and high spf. They also have non oily powdery spray for body that I like.

Hi @mkhogan 🥰
Thank you! I purchased the DRMTGLY tinted moisturizer with spf and I love it. It really blends super well and with no white haze.
I think I am now going to buy their eye cream with mineral spf which is not supposed to irritate the eyes like a chemical spf does.
Do you use sunscreen to protect the eye area with spf?
