Still no taste or smell?

Posted by denan210 @denan210, Feb 4 11:08pm

I don't know if anyone has asked this but I had covid 4years ago and to this day still can not taste or smell anything and the things that I can taste or smell are not the same as before covid. Is anyone else still having these problems?

I haven't been able to smell or taste since March 2020. My cousin either for 4yrs. We can detect if salty or sweet. I can smell my jar of VicksVaporRub usually but not always. I have a fleeting taste of ketchup occasionally. Once in awhile my toothpaste briefly. I used to be a good cook& really enjoyed it, but that joy is gone. Many people have posted about this symptom, but very rarely regained function. Sorry! I can still breathe, walk&talk so am blessed above many who have posted here. Love ❤️

That's very true, I have a constant chemical taste and pungent smell so nothing really smells good to me anymore and it has to be very salty, sweet or spicy for me to taste it.

My understanding is Covid and or the vaccines that create the toxic spike protein can damage the nervous system which includes taste and smell senses. I’m not sure if nerves are able to regenerate after Covid nerve damage.

Honestly, I have not and probably will not get the shots. My father-in-law had every one of them but still had it 4 times.

COVID in May 2023, so fairly recently. Lost sense of taste and smell, which has not yet come back.

I am among those who have lost their taste and smell. It has been over 2 years, since December of 2022. Immediately, after my very first Covid Injection, which I was happy to get, I detected a metal taste in the back of my throat. I didn’t think much of it, as my Mom and Sister also had this happen. I caught Covid on December 14th of 2022 and on the 16th of December of 2022 I lost my taste/smell and it’s now February 6th of 2025 and I still don’t have it back. I can detect, like most of us without taste/smell, salty, sweet, bitter and spicy, but not any flavors of anything! I also suffer from “Long Covid”, which for me means that I can no longer do some things I once was able to without tiring easily. It seems like if I do too many things in one day, I run out of steam…I never was this way before. I also have been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism. This was found after I had 18” of my colon removed due to severe Diverticulitis. Yes, I’ve had my fair share of sickness, but I feel like others here that I am probably one of the lucky ones that doesn’t have anything worse like cancer or some other debilitating disease. I can still walk my 3-4 miles per week on the treadmill or outside when weather permits and lift free weights and still have enough energy for the day. I have learned to say “no” to offers of going out at night if I don’t feel up to it. It’s my new way of life and I guess I’ll have to be ok with it.

I am over 3 years at this point, very discouraged but with God all is possible. I have read people over 4 years who got everything back to normal. Don't give up, Stay Blessed.

Oh boy, did not want yo read this- sense of smell gone since fall of ‘23. I found this “retraining kit” on Etsy and have been doing it, but all I can smell is the spearmint/menthol etc.
it’s so damn frustrating- I have tons of perfume and can smell none of them

Smell training did nothing. Mayo LCclinic had me using
NETIPOT with presription RX powder 2xDay. No change.Discontinued.
Antihistamine nothing either. I have the fatigue&brain fog. Some days i don't drive...too stressful. My legs get wonky and I have to rest. My vision doubles if I look far left.
I pray. I cope. I won't let myself continue grieving my
lost self. I am loved,huge! ❤️

Same here with the daily rinses. I’ve been doing them since a month before the surgery and have continued after the surgery. I add some kind of prescription steroid and antibiotic. I don’t feel like it’s doing anything. My first debridement was the worst pain I’ve ever had
