Atorvastatin, Rosuvastatin, and now Praluent . The first two resulted in really bad muscle and joint side effects, to the point where I couldn't hardly walk. I seemed to be tolerating Praluent, but shortly after my last injection I came down with a headache and changes in my vision. Has anyone else experienced this kind of reaction from Praluent?
Sounds very similar to my experience. I have tried all three and Praluent turned out to be the worst by far. I ended up in urgent care because of the horrible exhaustion. It’s been 6-7 weeks since my last injection and I’m just starting to feel normal again. Everyone is different but I find it hard to believe that there is a statin without side effects if you have had bad experiences with 3 different medications. I have a healthy diet and can keep my LDL under 100 without statins, so I’d rather roll the dice than go back to any medications.
Thanks for sharing! Hopefully you continue to improve and can maintain you low LDL. My Calcium score is off the charts so will try to find something, as well as maintaining a healthy diet and exercise regime (though my recently ruptured achilles adds a new dynamic to that).
It took me about 3 months to start feeling muscle pain so bad I couldn’t exercise. Now my cardiologist put me on Repatha since April 2024 and I’m having high blood pressure. Very high! So now I’m on 2 medications which I hate… 74 very active and good diet
Hello
Can you please share how high was calcium score and how this issue is addressed.
I have similar concerns.
I am 67 years old.
I appreciate your help
397 was my score. Due to my family history (my father and his 5 siblings all died of heart disease before the age of 60 (my father was 48) I went sent for an angiogram. They put stents in my LAD right then and there m
Good question, the doctor tried to tell me Statins had other benefits like anti-inflamatory benefits. I've been off statins for almost 3 years. My cholesterol is 186, with my HDL jumping from 40 to 60, (Diet). I had an aortic aneurism operation. At 70 years old they let me out of the hospital two days early. They said nobody had done that before especially at 70 years old. I am on my fourth cardiologist, before I found one that made logical sense. I could write a book on the lack of logic the first three had.
I'm curious because I don't trust all I hear about statins myself and like others they are a terror for your joints, especially knees and ankles at any age. Did you just bounce from one Cardi to the other till #4 worked or were you searching for a particular practice focus advertised, etc?
What is the Dash Diet please?

I have taken 20 mg/day of simvastatin for around 20 years now. Never have experienced any side effects or symptoms.
I was on the same but it wasn’t bringing my cholesterol down low enough. It is a very mild statin.
