Started Repatha - Side Effects
I had terrible side effects with statins (any statin, any dosage). For about 30 years my doctors have pushed statins and
I have resisted. Finally I agreed to Repatha. The first week I had zero side effects. With my second dose, 2 weeks in, i woke up and my joints and muscles hurt a LOT.
1. Does this side effect go away?
2. What do you know about the recent information that the Repatha trials underreporting deaths from cardiac events while taking Repatha.

Hi, I started Repath at six months ago and my wrist and ankles have been so achy, especially on the top of my wrist. I was wondering how long it took after you got off of Repatha did the joint pain go away and was your wrist pain on the top of your wrist or just all over.
It took a couple of months to start feeling a lot better. I have residual wrist and low back still, but tolerable. I hope it will someday be gone. I will not continue to hurt myself this way.
What seems to be the magic LDL number requiring Repatha?
If I am tolerating statins should I just remain on them?
Did the pain go away after the following doses? I’m concerned about dropping my LDL too low
Are you feeling better?
I answered above. The wrist, hip and low back still hurt but I’m hoping to someday be free of the pain, but it’s nothing like it was when I was taking it though. I could hardly get out of bed. Now I’m back to my normal activities with tolerable pain. I hurt all over when I was taking it.
I started taking OTC Beta-sitosterol which I read might help reduce cholesterol levels, and particularly LPa, by limiting the amount of cholesterol that is able to enter the body. My levels have gone down, not as dramatically as with Repatha, but they are going down. The most dramatic was that my LPa went down 60 points. We aren’t absolutely sure that it was all from the Beta-Sitosterol or not because my cardiologist wasn’t testing my LPa. Right, wasn’t testing it. Also, I recently learned about cholesterol ratio numbers which are supposed to tell a lot more about risk than just a high LDL cholesterol number. My ratio was 2.5 which is very good even though my bad cholesterol number is high. My HDL and Triglycerides were good. Since I am not able to take statins and Repatha I have looked into just what a high LDL cholesterol number really mean by itself. My internist said I’m in good shape and to continue what I’m doing. Exercise, healthy organic foods, no red meat, keep my weight down and take Beta-Sitosterol.
According to my cardiologist, Repatha is indicated when 1 - LDL is above 80 AND 2 - (one is on a medium to high dose of statin OR LDL is above 80 and one has failed 2 or more different statins) AND 3 - (one has had a CV event OR is at high risk for a CV event OR has a diagnosed blockage)
It is a pricy drug and not without side effects. I would not be taking it if I could use anything else.
I have been on Repatha For about 11 months now injections twice a month and it has brought my LDL down to 18 which is fantastic. No side effects except for a drippy nose and some tiredness. The next day if I get lower back pain, I take a Doan’s pills And it goes away in about 15 minutes
I just want to mention for everybody’s information if you have hypothyroidism, you may have a very bad reaction with bone and muscle pain because of it, and intolerance to taking statins! Another thing, the doctors never tell you before you start on the statins.
