Skin that is painful to the touch

Posted by robinsmm @robinsmm, Jan 28 11:43am

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 4 years ago. Typically on a day to day basis I am symptom free. Yesterday I developed extreme pain only when I touch my skin. This is every inch of my body. This is the third time I've developed this symptom. The first two times It resolved on it's own after about 3-4 days. I discussed this with my rheumatologist and she said she didn't know what to make of it. She wanted to do labs when I was having the pain. I did the labs and they showed nothing abnormal.

Does anyone know of physical exercise that doesn’t hurt and cause a flare up. Even more than 7 minutes of walking causes me pain. Once it flares up bad pain doesn’t go away for days even if I stop.

@jeannesf1 After 40 years, I’ve found the SciFit recumbent stepper works for me. I use it at the lowest level and have worked up to 30 minutes. No pressure on joints and I’m not dealing with the usual post-exertion malaise, flu-like muscle pain. My YMCA has 3 such machines, our Senior Center has two, and the PT folks also have one. Watch it in use online. Search SciFit recumbent stepper. I think NuStep makes one, too.

@jakefix82 , I like it too. I’m not up to 30 minutes though! That’s awesome!

@jakefix82 thank you so much. I had not heard of these before. But haven’t been to the gym although I have access to a gym because I went once and had a bad flare up. But I’m going to look for these. I really appreciate it.

I've just joined today and am learning about my recently diagnosed fibro.
I, too, have stinging pain on various areas of my body. I hope to learn more about this issue.

@mrsr1234 , I finally went to Urgent care ortho last week and was diagnosed with ITBS, which I had in my other leg several years ago. It resolved with PT. This time he gave me a printout of exercises that should help it. I was able to get back on the stairstepper without too much pain. My flares are on the outside of the knee and a line of pain and soreness up the outside of the thigh and down the outside of the calf. Ice is helping too.
