With all the bleak news, we have a lot for which to be grateful. Share your story. In 2021, Georgia helped the nation surpass 41K transplants for the first time in a single year. This milestone is thanks to people like Dawn Martin, who donated a kidney to her first-responder brother and donor mom Charmon Shelnutt. #DonateLife

I just received a kidney transplant at CPMC in San Francisco! So far so good. This recovery takes a bit longer than expected and I remain grateful. I am starting my 7th week post transplant and needed meals through this week. I am learning to breathe from my diaphragm more and sticking to my exercises of walking and movement. This improvement will continue into month 2 and 3 as well. I do ask others not familiar with to wear masks and I stay home mostly. And I remain grateful and positive and thankful to CPMC staff for helping me recover. Blessings to all on their journey of well-being, BB

Hi @rosemarya 😊
What a wonderful article Rosemary! I am so very hopeful that pig organ transplants will eventually solve the long waiting list for organs. That's my dream for the future and I pray that the future comes in this generation.
Thank you so much for keeping us updated on how this technology is progressing. It's so exciting!

I recieved my liver from a living donor September 18
@melissa0919, This is so exciting to hear! I am happy that you chose to share it here with us on Connect.
My transplant was 14 years ago. It was liver and kidney transplant from a deceased donor at Mayo Rochester. I would like to connect you to support groups with other recipients who are also newly transplanted. How is your recovery going? do you have any questions? How can I help you as you continue your adjustment to your new liver life?
Thank you for reaching out to me. Recovery did not go well after transplant. I had a lot of issues, just one thing after another happened. When I was finally released things were better and I thought ok I’m going to be ok. But for the past few weeks I have went into full rejection. They keep increasing my medication, but my numbers keep climbing. Don’t know if you’re a religious person, but if so please say a prayer for me.
@melissa0919 I am so sorry to hear that you are coping with early rejection. I am 2 years post liver transplant (deceased donor) and my first two weeks in the hospital were very difficult and I thought, why did I think I could make it out of here alive? The immediate aftermath of a liver transplant - first 3 months esp- I think are always hard, but for you it is harder. One thing I’ve been told by my team is one of the greatest advancements in transplant medicine is the ability to cope with rejection much better. I am a spiritual person and I will pray for you. Please let us know how you are.
Thank you for reaching out to me and for your prayers. I am at hospital now. I have had imaging to check my bile ducts for restriction and a liver biopsy for rejection. My bile ducts are fine, so I am in rejection and I also think I’m not going to make it out alive. After all I have been through to have a new life free of sickness and ascites, I have to face this. Just pray
