Salty tast in my mouth from diagnosed with Sjogren's
I was tested positive for Sjogren in 2019. My condition is very odd, other than dry mouth, I have salty taste in my mouth all day since 2021. I went to see a ENT, they tested me for nose cancer which turned out to be negative, they did biopsy on my mouth, they can't find anything wrong. I went to Irvine Clinic Research and did another biopsy on my mouth and same result. They found nothing. I am a 60 years old & in top shape of my life (work out 4-5 times a week), no health issues & not taking another prescription drugs since I am so healthy, except the salty taste in my mouth. I have not been able to taste food like I used to. Everything I eat taste salty. I am wondering anyone from this group has the same issue like me, please share how you combat this problem.

1 Reaction@dkennedy6 I don't think that would be prescribed since it's very addictive but I was on it once after surgery and it made me really sick..
May just apply to me. I get mouth sores if I am low on folic acid. Took about 50 years before I was diagnosed with Sjogren’s. First doctor prescribed treating with a formalin solution —1950’s). Refused to use it. Incompetence goes back a long way. Always listen to your body.
@neisie13 I was told to use Biotene to rinse my mouth by the dentist. It never works for me. I also took XyliGum & 3M ESPE TherMints for dry mouth, it doesn't really do anything for me either. I will tell my dentist about my mouth sores again & see what he has to say. Thanks for reminding me.

1 ReactionI've been using Biotene for years and it used to work great before the salty taste started. Now about a half hour after I use it the pleasant taste turns into a sour taste so I rarely use it anymore. The thing that works the best for me is Trident fruit flavored gum. It really masks the taste for a while. A friend of mine has sores in her mouth and they diagnosed it as lichen planus. It is another immune disorder that can be in your mouth or as a rash. There are so many immune disorders!!! Okay take care!!!

I have had this for two years following a revision of a root canal. I have never been the same since. Yesterday I went to a Prosthodontist who couldn't figure it out either. He said it could be nerve damage from the injections when I had the procedure. After I go to UCLA I will let you know what they say. Did yours start randomly.
I hope you find an answer at UCLA. Yes, mine started randomly. More than a year ago I would have a day here and there where I had a salty taste off and on during the day but then it would go away for a week or two and then I'd have another episode. That went on for a couple of months and then it turned into more of a sour/bitter taste that was extremely unpleasant. Now it varies between the two tastes and I never know what the next day will bring. I don't have a single day where I am not fighting to control the taste. Drinking more didn't help and neither did any of the saliva prescriptions or products that I used. The dentist said all looks fine other than a little mouth dryness, the ENT can't find anything and neither can the rheumatologist. My next appointment is with a neurologist since the doctors think it might be a neurological problem even though gabapentin hasn't worked. Okay I'll wait to hear about UCLA!!
Oh, my goodness! This just started happening to me about a week ago. I thought the salty water taste was from the newly replaced fridge water filter….but noticed it when drinking water from the new PUR faucet filter and the BRITA water pitcher, too! 😵💫
@thisnthat Do you have the salty taste all the time or only when you are eating or drinking? For me it makes even low salt products taste very salty and the taste continues throughout the day, even when I am not eating.... and sometimes it's replaced by a sour taste so it's such a mystery!!

So far, the salty taste seems to come and go, and only when I am drinking water…but with dry mouth, that means drinking a lot of water! I use very little salt (if any) in my cooking, so not really noticing the salty taste there (yet)! Fortunately, no sour aftertaste.
Hoping this salty problem is a temporary glitch….🤞
