Reversal of a fundoplication

I haven't had my reversed but wish I had never had it done. Good luck if you find someone that can reverse it.

I had a Nissan flondiplicaion done a year ago this past june. I have had swallowing problems, thrush, heartburn, diarrhea, bloating, chronic cough,and my stomach still hurts. I cannot burp either. The swallowing is better. I got down to 85 pounds and have only gained 10 pounds in a year. The surgeon that did my surgery was fired so now I am seeing a gastronologist. He keeps putting me off on scoping me. He put me on anxiety meds which he says he is not using them for that purpose, I guess to try to relax my stomach. I never have the feeling of being hungry, and everything I eat goes right through me. I asked him about having this reversed and he said I wouldn't want to go through that. I wish I would never have had it done, the diarrhea and bloating is the worst. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

I had a Nissen Fundoplication procedure done last Oct. I have not have success with it at all. The wrap was to tight and I have to have a dilation done almost every two months. I am looking at have a reversal done and wonder if anyone has had this done and if so, did things improve Thank You

Warning to anyone considering this procedure. New cases of low blood sugar drops have been becoming common among people with this and any bariatric surgery. Within several months of my Nissan I started passing out and ending up in the hospital. No one could figure out what was causing it and diagnosed me as diabetic. With an A1c of 5.4 I wasn’t diabetic. Finally a doctor here in Cincinnati I went to had been reading studies of this occurring. This surgery causes the pancreas to overreact and pour insulin in after a meal. Then you have a quick low blood sugar drop. There is medication to help called Acarabose but the side effects are just as bad as acid reflux. And I still have acid reflux. Wish I had never had this done and that the doctor just work with me on diet and exercise changes.

I am so sorry to hear about this horrible outcome after this surgery. I have a female friend who is 75 years old and just had this surgery at NYU Corneill in New York City. Its been only 2 weeks, I pray she doesn't have complications. I have a mild hiatal hernia after years of lifting and moving heavy things. The most recent a 400 lb ping pong table after delivery at my daughters home into the garage, so my grandchildren wouldn't see it when they got off the bus after school. Sorry for the story. I am 67 years old and have done alot of heavy lifting over the years. So now my body is showing wear and tear. I have read about many things happening and going wrong with this surgery. I will live with it and not have surgery. I will not do any heavy lifting, exercise and watch what I eat.

Surgery like? What was recovery….?

Has anyone ACTUALLY gotten it and can tell us about it? Everything I have searched for on here is people just considering it but I have not seen one person talk about getting it done and what the results were.

I'm 33 years old, I was 31 when I got diagnosed with a hiatal hernia. I was the picture of health, everyone guessed that I was 20 years old. Out of nowhere, I had acid reflux built up to my vocal cords because of the hernia and it took them 4 months to figure it out. The surgeon convinced me to do a Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication, described it as "you'll only be out for 3 days and you'll be eating completely normal in 3 weeks." Sounded like a piece of cake, right?

After 3 weeks, I still couldn't eat anything besides Ensure and Jello, then I researched it and it was more typical that eating struggles were to continue 3-6 months in reality. After 6 months, I really started to panic. Long story short, it's been 2 and a half years since my surgery, and every day I am spitting up something if I attempt to eat it. It gets stuck in my throat. I have phlegm 247 no matter what I do.

I am at the point where I have had every single test done that I can, and the GI is telling me the only thing left to do is reverse it. I am worried about the risk. In trying to research it on my own, I can't even find anyone that has done a reversal to see what I can expect. I cannot live the rest of my life drinking smoothies for every meal.

Aside from wanting my health to improve, I am also wondering about suing the surgeon who make it sound like a no-brainer piece of a cake when I never would have done this surgery if I knew I literally wouldn't be able to eat normally again FOREVER.
