Relief from nausea

Posted by clutch @clutch, Dec 4, 2019

I have been tapering klonopin, switched to valium, for a year now. Have come a ways but still have a way to go. Nausea was one of the biggest issues, with resultant appetite and weight loss.
Tried the usual Rx (zofran, phenegran, compazine), and also ginger and CBS tincture. None worked over time. So I was lucky to get myself referred to a Symptom Specialist at Duke. He prescribed 15 remeron and 2.5 mg zyprexa. This was too sedating, so I cut these back to a tolerable dose, taken at night. The combination works better than anything I've tried.
If I have episodes during the day, I take .625 mg. zyprexa. Appetite and weight have improved.
Hope this will help someone else who is in "nausea hell".
Would like any feedback. Thanks!

I was sent to the Motility Clinic at U of L in Louisville Ky.
Saw an ARPN who suggested an implant to trigger my stomach to empty. Sent me to a surgeon who did not even do this! They also sent me Quest Lab in Louisville
and had 13 vials of blood drawn.
Never heard from U of L . After around 6 months I messaged for results. The Motility doctor said it was all good. I have no idea if I was checked for gluten sensitivity, lactose intolerance or anything!
So I am still on the IBS C diet!
I am now on my 4th year, in pain most days, eating barely anything!
I went for PT and they were the only real help I have received!
I have a consultation scheduled for
a possibility of getting an endoscopy procedure to nip places in my stomach wall to allow me to eat “real” food again. This will be on Oct 10. So now I will travel from south central Kentucky to Maryland!! As it is now I really have no life!!!

My mom has GERD and it's gotten to the point where she has nausea every day and some days can't keep food down. She has been on prescription meds for acid reduction and nausea and it isn't helping. I found a supplement made up of zinc, licorice root, ginger and artichoke leaf that she will start to take today. I will let you know if it's effective. These natural ingredients are supposed to help repair the damage caused by the acid, coat the system and reduce nausea. If it turns out to be effective, I'll report back. If you have any other suggestions, I'm interested in learning more. I just have to get her off the prescription meds. They are just making things worse.

I will go upstairs and get my notes and let you know.
He is at the Lutherville location. Dr. Khashab.
Do you feel I would be right in making the 9 hour drive for a consultation with him?
I have authorized all my medical records be released to him.

I have had daily nausea for nearly 4 years. Have GERD and colitis for which I get remicade/inflimax infusions. Went to my Gastro and a surgeon who told me to get an esophageal manometry, which showed medium hiatal hernia. Also, had an endoscopy w/bravo that showed nothing abnormal. Got frustrated and sent all my records to Johns Hopkins Gastros. who told me to go to a motility clinic. Why and what is that? Ideas or other suggestions. Nausea is ruining my life. Thanks Mike

The supplements I got my mom is called Gut Alive. It's on Amazon. She's been on it for two days and says she is feeling a reduction in the acid burn and she's been able to eat solid food today without vomiting for the first time in a week. I'll update as she continues to take the supplement. So far so good.

On Dexilant now. Tried them all. Was also taking 2 famotidine (pepcid) pills a day. Someone told me to get off the famotidine, which I started doing yesterday. Had been on them for 4 years. Thanks!

Have you tried off-label olanzapine? Can be used in conjunction with mirtazapine, also off-label, to help with nausea and low appetite.
