Absolutely, it’s driving me crazy. My feet are ice cold, but sweaty, then the rest of my body is experiencing hot flashes. Then, I use a heated blanket with the fan on with a remote. It’s maddening.

I saw an infection disease doctor at the beginning of my journey in 2022. Consistently temping 100.0 and over. Typically I was a cool gal, normally 97.7, when I was sick 99 was miserable. I was told it was due to Covid affecting the hypothalamus where temperature is controlled. Temperature dysregulation. I am cold body hands, my feet burning and red and my temp will be 99.7. Any kind of activity such as getting dressed in a hurry raises me to 100.4. When the weather is warm, my temperature stays higher all day, 100+. Very uncomfortable causing my anxiety and panic to increase, also which I never had before. I am sorry you are also going through this, but know, you are not alone.

Did the infectious disease specialist have any suggestions on how to address your temperature dysregulation?

He told me that Covid causes inflammation, in the brain there is no way to see on MRI or CT. Only time will tell. It was all too new when I had this visit. He did say that he had seen others with this same problem.

I now always wear layers - i remove a sweater wearing a t-shirt underneath.
I sleep in lightweight summer pj’s with heavy socks.
Different body parts get hot or stay cold!

I was first diagnosed with ET- essential Thrombocytosis because my platelet count was up from 400k (normal) to 1.1 million. ET is a chronic leukemia and I take 500 mg hydrea daily - it’s a difficult drug to adjust to but I’m finally past the side effects. I felt terrible even with a good platelet count and was diagnosed with POTS. Many diseases have similar symptoms and are NOT diagnosed with bloodwork. Mayo has a great website explaining symptoms..

My onc and hematologist don’t want patients taking ANY vitamins or meds they don’t pre-approve and know in advance. Many possible interactions and some lower the effectiveness of your med. Ask before a vax!! I take Fludro and live vaccines not permitted - I thought I needed a measles Booster Shot (I had measles before the MMR was available) and it’s a live vaccine - no shot. Covid boosters are NOT live vaccines and are recommended.

Once you’re immuno compromised you can get additional syndromes.

Good luck and let us know how you’re doing!

I live in Alaska and had long Covid for about a year. I am having trouble keeping warm compared to the last few winters. Thank you for this interesting Information about the hypothalamus. There are no doctors that specialize in long Covid where I live. I hope you fully recover soon
