Quiet Hotels at Mayo Clinic, Rochester

Posted by allig @allig, May 2 7:12pm

I suffer from a bad neurological condition and will be attending the Mayo at the end of the month. I am quite sensitive to noise and do not sleep well at all. Does anyone have recommendations of quiet hotels whether near the Mayo or just in Rochester in general? I know I will need to get some rest between appointments and especially at night. Are there any hotels that you can recommend? Obviously the cheaper the better, but I'm willing to pay more just to preserve my sanity. I will also have to pay for a separate room for my medical escort, so things will get pricy. I definitely want a quiet and clean place to stay, so I am willing to pay more. It doesn't have to be fancy at all, (though a mini fridge, microwave and AC would be nice), but I am fine with a basic hotel. It doesn't have to be super close to the Mayo (though closer would be better), but shuttle service would help in case we fly instead of driving. Also, please let me know which hotels to stay away from. That equally helps.

I stayed at the La Quinta in Rochester, and I remember it being very quiet, but then again I was there in February, and February in Rochester isn’t exactly a rocking travel season, so I’m not sure if it’s like that all the time.

Have you thought about looking for an Air B&B? I’m not sure if rates in the area would be more or less expensive than a hotel, but that could address the extra room or space for the person accompanying you, and possibly the quiet.

Following are links to previous conversations and recommendations. But, once you narrow down the choices, I suggest you contact hotel directly and ask if any conventions / groups are staying at hotel at same time. Last thing you want to be is at a hotel where large youth group is staying. Rochester often is host to sports tournaments or conventions in spring and summer. Most time they are on weekends.

A good place to start is contacting Concierge Services at Mayo Clinic. They can make recommendations specific to your needs.

We stay at the Candlewood Suites. It is very accommodating. Quiet. Under ground parking. Not sure about shuttle- we always drive. 5-10 minute drive to Mayo.

Hello @allig. One hotel that we have in Rochester that might be very helpful for you is Centerstone Plaza. They partner with the Neuro Hospitality House, which includes all hotel amenities, along with an affordable rate for Neuro patients and caregivers while visiting the Mayo Clinic. They have many options of room types and might be able to get you a place a little farther from other guests. Centerstone will have a shuttle that will drop you off at the main doors of the clinic buildings, has a restaurant on site and has free parking. I included the link to their website to see how to make a request to get financial support from Neuro Hospitality House.

Thanks. I plan on coming end of May. I am looking for cheap to middle range prices, not the top tier prices. Looking for quiet and clean. Perks would be free parking, shuttle, easy cancellation, mini fridge, microwave and ac. Thanks again.

@allig, I hope you have found a suitable hotel. This is an older discussion, but thought you might appreciate it for those moments where you might not have time to go back to the hotel between appointments:
