Is playing music while studying beneficial or harmful?

Hi @tannay Music while studying is a great topic! I’m officially an “older woman” of 69 who has always had music on when I studied. Even now, whether I’m involved in an art project or reading, I generally have music or the tv in the background. It helps me focus and not be distracted from other things that might be going on around me.
However, if it’s something important that I’m working on, I also try to keep the music a little less intense. Ok, dating myself, but when I was younger let’s say I opted for soft rock instead of heavy metal when I really needed to focus on prepping for an exam.

My daughter, who is now 39, always had music in her life while studying. She’s a very accomplished and well educated woman. So from my perspective, I see no harm in having this as a study pal.

In teacher training, they espoused Baroque music as being helpful to learning. In my time, I listed to similarly quiet (no words) music to calm myself enough to attend to the subject for longer periods than without.

Thanks a lot. Yeah it was purely random. I read about the Mozart effect and just wanted to find out if it was true

Helpful. Especially classical or ambient music. Chew gum while studying helps you concentrate.
