Phage Therapy ( alternative of antibiotics) for MAC lung infection
Does anyone try Phage therapy for MAC lung infection?
Currently only a few country like Belgium, Georgia and Poland are applying this for infectious disease like UTI and lung infection.
Phage therapy is a promising afresh therapy, which uses viruses to lyse bacteria responsible for the infection. Bacteriophages have been recently administered under compassionate use to a 15-year-old patient infected with M. abscessus in combination with antibiotics with excellent results.Jan 18, 2021.
I will upload more info for people interested in it. As it has no side effects, it may be a promising way to help MAC patients.
Anyone is welcomed to add any comments or input. Thank you.

I am pretty sure other Irene it is the part D premium plan but I will check. I know we have the better plan because my husband had lots of medical stuff and so do I. It is through the Connecticut retired teachers. Most of my teacher friends didn’t get the senior supplement plan with Medicare. It is more expensive but has helped so much when my husband was so sick . I will check . Irene5:)
@yayoek The number is 833 544 4800. Sometimes talking to an Arikayce rep yourself can be helpful. Have you filled out paperwork? I had pages to fill out first. ( irene5)
@irenea8 I have Medicare A and B and United Healthcare senior supplement. That’s what it says on the cards. I always pick the better plan because it allows me way more choice. It is through the Connecticut retired teachers program. Irene5
@irene5
You must have a drug plan to get Arikayce so perhaps your plan is some sort of Advantage plan with drug coverage. Thanks for answering Irene.
Definitely not the advantage plan that I know. It is better than the advantage plan as the senior supplement. When I was on the Arikayce I was in a clinical trial. My ID doctor said I was her l guinea pig. I was her first patient. The joy of it all! Irene5

1 ReactionDitto! I am interested also. I have been out of contact for a while. Busy recovering from some surgery not related to my lungs and my husband was hospitalized. We are both on the mend. I am 10 months completed of the “big 3” for MAC w/an 18 month treatment plan. I have numerous pulmonary nodules likely due to MAC. Wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving Week! 🦃 gobble, gobble !

1 Reaction@irene5 @irenea8 I'm going to pipe in on this conversation. I have the State Teachers Plan in OK. It is inclusive....one package....meaning the medical part pays what Original Medicare does not pay and the D Plan (drug plan) is built in.
I think that is how most of the State plans are set up when you choose a Supplemental Plan....the D Plan is included in the Supplemental Plan.
Hope this makes sense. The State offers you a choice....Supplemental Plan or Advantage Plan.
Is that what yours is Irene Estes....the D plan built into the State Supplemental Medical Plan?

@blm1007blm1007 Hmm I have the supplemental plan not the advantage. As far as I know though I have Medicare A and B, but now that you have brought it to my attention I will check with a teacher friend who is good at all that and see if I am missing something. I have always been of the school of thought that well if they’re paying my bills, I’m just good with that since we really don’t have a lot of choice if you stick with the retired teacher’s program in the state of Connecticut. I’ve always been happy with it, but I do know we paid the extra every month to have more choice and the senior supplement and not the advantage plan because we have so many health issues. Now that my dear husband is gone I will definitely check into that. I will say though that his hospital bills were astronomical as in hundreds of thousands of dollars and all I’ve had to pay is $100 and then another hundred dollars for the Life Star helicopter. I had asked the helicopter people how long it would take to get him to the hospital, and they told me 15 minutes - no traffic. Ha ha.
Thanks. Irene
@irene5 Sorry to report I was not eligible for Arikayce at this time. I spoke to the rep who said I did not meet their criteria since I have not been on the big 3 meds long enough. I have another CAT scan in early December and will see what it shows. I continue to feel well with no obvious breathing problems….just weight loss that I’m working on by eating more calories during the day.
