Oral lichen Planus: What home remedies or medications help you?

Posted by lovebug61 @lovebug61, Apr 4, 2019

Anyone in the group suffer from Oral Lichen Planus. I am at my wits end with all these erosive sores in my mouth. I've had two biopsies , one in the inside cheek and one under the side of my tongue. The spot under the tongue is extremely sore to touch and has been for over a year. It scares me because the soreness never goes away, sometimes it isn't as sore but nothing helps. Any home remedies for this dreadful condition?

Prolly should not have recommended Shingrex but ask your doc and steroids and immunity:))

Hi Laurie,
I told you I'd let you know my diagnosis: Severe, chronic erosive lichenoid musositis, lichen planus. Dentist is preparing trays for strong cortisone gels to be absorbed well. Have you had those? Joy!
I'm sure hoping your biopsy goes without adverse reaction and most likely will. Hope whatever it is, it is manageable fairly easily. The apprehension I totally get. I have bad gut too. Sure wish there was doc/researcher that worked on figuring how all this junk fits together so we could eliminate the source. I just don't buy that it just pops up and can't be fixed. I understand immunlogy pretty well and get the cascade but there has to be stressor if not genetic.
I have decided that I will go to Mayos if not happy with treatment offered in my hometown. I would like a complete workup on body instead of patchwork quilt that my healthcare system seems comfortable with:(
Sincere, best wishes to you and let me know how that dreaded biopsy goes and then conclusive diagnosis.

Hi Steph:
Yes, wouldn't it be loverly if some brilliant scientist/doctor could give us the answers we need. Hah!! 😊 At least you finally have a firm diagnosis, which must be a bit of a relief for you to know what you're dealing with.
I'm in the hospital again, since Saturday. Long story.
I really hope you can go to Mayo. Maybe connect with @loribmt for encouragement on that. I sure wish I could go to Mayo, but my travel days are over.
Take care, Steph. I wish you luck with your new treatment! I'll keep you advised about my biopsies.
Hugs. Laurie

Aw, thanks, Steph.
We're not yet sure what's messing with me but at least this time I've been hospitalized and I'm getting a good workup! I think it's all part of my confirmed IBD diagnosis (Crohns is my guess), but time will tell...maybe. lol. It seems to be involved with my multi-autoimmune conditions.

I'm tough and I'm resilient, Steph. Please don't worry your pretty little head. Lol. It is what it is, right?
I have a wonderful, supportive family so I'm blessed in that way. Hugs.

I swish and spit a Prednisone solution which I don't do often enough to to really help until my dentist wanted me to have a biopsy. Gave me something stronger and it's helped and scared me enough to be better about doing it. (4xday) it used to come and go and now it never goes. Gone is sharp food. I never thought I could possibly get used to it years ago when they said some day this might be my new normal but I guess we adjust to anything. I always think people have no idea what we live with day in and out when they complain about a cold sore. It's all relative I guess and cold sores hurt, but having an ulcer under your tongue for over a year...a whole different kind of hell.
I'm on Prednisone right now for comorbid COVID inflammation issues and wow, just realized my mouth doesn't hurt. Silver lining. My best. When I read it can spread, I could my blessing it stays only oral. Eyes and ears are bad spreads.

Is there any treatment for this? At first it was a “come and go” thing, but now it’s constant.
