No motivation — feel like I'm going down a black hole

Posted by twobluelady @twobluelady, Aug 23, 2017

Currently not on any medication though I have been in the past on Celexa. Thought most of my problem was a painful divorce and went off medication. Since then I have lost my job, living with family, gained almost 100 pounds. I just can't seem to find the motivation to change anything and feeling helpless. I know I need to find a doctor and get back on medication, but what can I do in the meantime? I feel I'm going down a black hole.

Count me in for a motivation group like that. (Accountability partners.) Personally, I do better when I have to account to someone. : )

I would like to be in the Motivation Group, also. I decided last week I wold walk around the block every day, watch 3 funny YouTube, and meditate for 10-15 minutes. It's not happening. I very much want to be in a situation where I'm accountable about what I want to do. Should we use emails, texts, this site or IM? Let's exchange something so we can contact each other. This is a great idea.

@twobluelady, @magspierce and @amberpep -- you all had talked before about isolating yourselves sometimes and not going out. I'm wondering if now that it's turned to spring and the days are getting nicer, if you've been getting out a bit?

@mscosette Your thoughts are very insightful. It can be a vicious negative cycle or one that almost feels virtuous when you fight it off even for a day. It is so easy to let the fog envelope you and become dark clouds as opposed to wispy fog. But, if you push it away in thought or activity for any amount of time, it is definitely a small victory. As one of my better bosses always said, you can only eat an elephant one bite at a time.

Probably the first thing I would need is to get a job. That would force me to get out. All i want to do now is sleep and eat. It's a vicious cycle. Exercising has helped when I do it. Thank you for responding and the encouragement.

True for me on SSD Disability (for depression) - I need to get a PT job to supplement what I get. Thank Goodness I get enough for most basic expenses but if a dental bill or something else comes in, I'm strapped. btw, happy to report I just pushed myself to get fully dressed and to walk around the block. It was def!!! worth it - the sunshine woke me up, felt good, I saw that my car wasn't covered with snow from the snow storm, and spoke to a neighbor briefly. Just that simple thing helped, that seemed so hard before, walk around the block.

Those are my goals, too - walk around the block every day, watch comedy on youtube and meditate 10 minutes or more. Feel free to send me a private message on Connect if you want to get in touch with me. Or here!

Feel free to private message me on Connect if you'd like to get in touch with me.

Let's try and do this.

Hi @stressedmesseddepressed -- Please note that I removed your personal email address from your message above. We recommend using the private message function to share personal contact information. We don’t want you to get unwanted spam from posting your email on a public forum like Connect.

@callalily74 -- As I mentioned to @stressedmesseddepressed, I removed your personal email address from your message just to protect you from unwanted spam from posting it here. We'd recommend using the private messaging (PM) function here on Connect.

To use the PM function on Connect, click on your profile picture (the one you chose when you set up your profile and appears in a circle beside your posts), you will be taken to a screen with your name, username and profile picture. Right under your name and username, you will see "send private message." Click on that, and it will open a private message screen for you. You can have a conversation with a whole group of people via private messaging, and it works very well -- I use it frequently.

The idea for the motivation group is fabulous.Go for it!
