Anyone experienced nipple soreness post menopause?

Posted by margaret902 @margaret902, Sep 23, 2012

I am 58, post menopausal. Within about the last week my nipples have become tender, similar to how it used to feel before or on my period. They also are more flat, and the aereola is less pink than normal. They used to change with temperature, but now seem to be more flattened out in general. I don't feel sick otherwise, and am not on any medications. Anyone out there who has experienced this kind of change or tenderness?

I have literally spent hours and hours with specific search keywords : post menopausal woman experiencing ONE nipple soreness pain recently... everything that gets shown is menopausal women breast pain.. or nipple pain referencing hormones ? I have been post menopausal for 19 years, recently onset of ONE nipple symptom of soreness.. itchy at first but then soreness.. nothing .. nothing nothing is addressing this.. I cannot go to a doctor, I havent got one, and I also have no medical insurance.. Cant any search online directly address this specific issue ??? for the love of God there's nothing!!!

For all in this discussion group who are experiencing breast discomfort of any type (and are post-menopausal), here is a link to an article that you might find interesting from the Harvard Health Publishing Company.

The nipple pain could be hormonal, wearing a bra that rubs on the nipples, or a sign of breast cancer. Having had invasive ductal cancer and neuroendocrine cancer in one breast and having had my breasts removed, that is why I posed the question. Hopefully, Margaret was able to get further help and hopefully this was not cancer.

While I know you are looking for answerers about this problem online, please know that it is not wise, to try and diagnose a problem only using the internet.

In order to put your mind at ease, you will need to see a doctor. If you have no insurance and this involves the breast, it might be a good idea to contact the American Cancer Society and ask if they can suggest a clinic where you can get a breast exam and probably a mammogram at low or no cost.

Here is a link to the American Cancer Society, if you call, they might be able to help you with a clinic in your area,

I can see you are worried and hoping to find an answer online. I agree with @trixie1313 and @hopeful33250 that having one breast with nipple soreness can be the sign of many things and that it is best to get an assessment of a medical professional.

I understand that you currently do not have insurance or a primary care physician. An undiagnosed problem like this is very worrisome, @ladyleelee. I can understand your anxiety. Post again and let me know how you are doing as you look for some medical help to solve this problem.

I look forward to hearing from you!
