my psychiatrist prescribed ENLYTE for depression.

Posted by @georgette12, Dec 5, 2017

Out of desperation, my psychiatrist finally decided to try a different tactic. I have been taking ENLYTE for unrelenting symptoms not helped by any meds. or ECT treatments. Please call up the website. It is used for many things…but is actually more super doses of vitamin Bs and Ds and folic acid. I will be away from my computer for several hours but I wanted to start this discussion now. Will check back later.

Hello @georgette12

It is so good to hear from you! It has been awhile since you last posted. I have never heard of Enlyte before, so I did a google search and I did find that it is a supplement of vitamins (B vitamins, D and folic acid). Here is the website for those who are not familiar with it, http://www.enlyterx.com/about-enlyte/.

Have you begun this vitamin therapy yet? We would all be interested in knowing how it works for you. Also, has your doctor treated other clients of his/hers with this supplement? We look forward to hearing from you.

, tThanks for remembering me! I’ve been off line. I’ve had a very rough time and meds have not worked. To answer your question first. I started ENLYTE 4 weeks ago. I was not responding to anything and my psychiatrist and I had a serious discussion as to how the brain works and how, in some cases, meds will just not work due to the way an individual brain functions. Since I have already had ECT treatments with zero results…that indicated to my doctor that he needed to go a completely different route. He did use this with other patients with good results.
So, after 4 days of taking that, one capsule a day, I felt a tiny tiny tiny bit better! Then each day I felt a tiny bit better. So, when I started it, I was extremely anxious, crying constantly and really scared about my mental health. I kept getting a bit better and then after 3 weeks I was noticeably better. So I am almost done with the 4th week. And I am 50 percent better. more to come

@georgette12 I am sorry to hear that you have been having such a rough time with anxiety. I am really glad to hear that the supplements are helping. We have a relatively new Member to Mayo Connect, @neilc, who just recently posted about Vitamin D helping her anxiety and panic, here is the link to her posts, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/meds-and-vitamin-d/. Perhaps you can both compare your experiences.

Always good to hear from you, @georgette12, we look forwarding to hearing more about your new treatment.

The only other meds I am taking are Depakote as a mood stabilizer and Ambien for sleep. I’ve already taken so many things with no results. The issue with ENLYTE when used for depression is that it is not usually prescribed for it. My doctor explained what ENLYTE does to help depression but I can’t quite explain it. It seems to be a complex combination of vitamins and essential minerals that the brain needs to function. But the “ingredients” in ENLYTE need to be “put together” in a way that works. Like a bunch of chemicals, I guess, compounded in a lab, I guess. more to come

ENLYTE can only be gotten by a prescription. And because it is a new treatment for depression , insurance companies definitely don’t want to pay for it. It is really expensive. But my doctor called in a RX to a “specialty medical drugstore”. They have a “patient assistance program” for payment. After lots and lots of anxiety and calling, I am getting a 30 day supply for 50.00 plus 15.00 shipping and handling. I am working on getting it cheaper. There is a whole issue out there with doctors being able to prescribe this. It doesn’t seem to be classified as a “normal” kind of drug. I went to the health food store and brought a list of what was in ENLYTE and asked if I could just get vitamins. They said that the ingredients were specific and formulated to work together to achieve certain results. So you all might want to do a bunch of research. All I can say is that I am definitely better. And to remind you, I am trying to recover from my son’s suicide last year. So I consider this new treatment a miracle for me personally.

Hi, @georgette12 — I also remember you and am glad to have you back chatting with everyone here. Very interesting about your results with the Enlyte. So glad something is working for you.

As you keep going with that supplement, will you let us know how it’s going?

Again …. it is so good to hear from you again! I’m very interested in the Enlyte, and am going to look it up …. sounds like a good alternative to a lot of the meds many of us are on now. I’ll be back, and again, welcome home.

I just looked up ENLYTE and you can get it on Amazon. Now I don’t know if it is as good as the Rx kind, but sometimes Big Pharma. puts things on their list only to jack up the prices. I’m going to read more about ENLYTE, study the contents, and maybe give it a whirl. First I’ll ask my Psychiatrist about it though.

My computer seems to have gone nuts this AM. I looked up ENLYTE, and you can get it on Amazon. Now I don’t know if it’s as good as if a doctor gives you an Rx but sometimes Big Pharma tries to keep these things under wraps so they can charge more. I’m going to research this, each ingredient, and maybe ask my Psychiatrist about it.

I’ve been reading about EnLyte and it seems to be mostly a B12 combination. It stated that it is used as an adjunct to regular anti-depressants and it’s primary use is for pernicious anemia. It states “Rx only” ….. so why is it on Amazon? I think I’ll just push my intake of Vit B Complex, B-12 and B-16 up a bit and see if that does anything. If not, next time I see my Psychiatrist I’ll ask him about it.

After reading still more (I’m a real researcher) I am going to up my B complex, B-12 and B-6, and I am DEFINITELY going to talk to my Psych. about it. I may get a bottle, and print out the spiel for him to see. This is interesting and if it is safe and works, could help a lot of people, IF being the important word there.
