My creatinine levels have gone up, my GFR has gone down to 40.

Hello Again,
This Nancy and I have had discussions before re my CKD3. I just got my blood work numbers and I'm disappointed. I can't give you exact numbers but my creatinine numbers have risen, my protein levels have risen, my GFR has dropped from (I believe) 44 down to 40. Also, for the past few days my urine output has slowed. I do see my nephrologist this Thursday but I am very worried. Any comments will be very much appreciated. : )

Kidney disease is hard to understand at times. You must have been a bit apprehensive with the drop to 38 while following a strict renal diet. Your BP is great. Can I assume that you do have a nephrologist (not meant to insult you). Since I found Dr. Yeh I am so much more informed about my CKD3. He explains every number and why it has risen or dropped. He did tell me how much hydration means so I have to take in 64 ounces of water daily (I will be floating between my-two -room apartment). : ) I wish you all the best and maybe be a little more kind to yourself and binge occasionally. I do food shopping every 2 weeks so I give myself 2 days worth of binging and then get back on track. : )

Hi Again,
I just realized when I said that you must have been apprehensive when your count went down to 38 when min was only 2 points higher than yours was. : ) Silly me!

Trends are the important factor but be sure you are following a diet program specifically for CKD Stage 3. Protein and sodium should be kept within specific limits and possibly potassium and phosphorus should be watched as well. Hydration is an important factor also. The renal dietitians at Mayo are wonderful at helping you figure out your limits. Good luck.

Gladiator, you are so on point and I do watch my diet. I am very cautious with salt and I don't eat processed foods (frozen or canned). My phosphorus and potassium are usually within limits. Everyone at this site is wonderful and very informative. Thanks so much for your comments. Nancy : )

Hi Ginger,

I'm so sorry to hear that you are on dialysis, it makes me feel like comments are easy compared to what you are going through. Yes, it does get a bit daunting at times. Thank you for all of your replies to my posts I so appreciate that. I was just going to post on another subject which is my constipation issues. What a pain in the a__. I will post in the right area and I'm sure you will get the chance to see what's been going on and all I want is a normal bowel movement without straining. I take Metamucil, Miralax, lots of water, roughage, on and on. What's a woman to do! Nancy : ) BTW, I am on many meds and I do wonder if this has anything to do with the issue. I have had colonoscopies and some removed and they were clean. Actually it's worse lately and I have read so many things re const. and they vary quite a bit. I took a laxative last night because I have to clean myself out. Sorry for the lousy subject. This one came up twice. What the heck and I doing wrong??

@nscappa Be careful what you use for medications for constipation, Some are not kidney friendly. Actually something that is simple is exercise! Walking, sweeping, shoveling snow, all will get your muscles moving and not only help with the depression, but stimulate your core muscles.

My nephrologist tells me to increase salt and "push protein," So dietary regimens may vary.

Wow, such different information. Well, we follow our doctor's instructions because we trust them. Thanks!

Not good but not terrible either. I have one kidney and my eGFR is 30 and has been there for over 2 years. So long as it does not go below 20 I am told. Then dialysis

It's a bit scary at times. My doctor wants me to drink 64 oz. of water every day and he stopped one of my pills. I will get more blood work next week. I hope that being more hydrated raises my GFR. Wish me luck! : )

Hey everyone:
Just to share my experience. I have been diagnosed with CKD stage 2, along with osteoporosis and something called MGUS about 2.5 years ago. I had proteinuria which led to more testing, etc. I’m now 65 and was very surprised!

MGUS is a benign blood plasma disorder that can very rarely turn into cancer. These 3 things may or may not be related!

Anyway, I started taking turmeric capsules and drinking a tea with it about 6 months ago, about 4 grams a day.
My lab results show no protein now. It went from 195 mg/dl to 120 mg/dl, which is normal range.
My eGFR went from 64 to 71.
BUN & Creatinine also went down, though was fine and wnl.

Just thought I’d pass this on. I’m going to keep on taking it.

@leslie2121 Your eGFR was essentially normal when you were told you had "stage 2" which at an older age is fine- anything over 60 is normal. So I am wondering why there was protein in your urine? Glad you are feeling better!
