My creatinine levels have gone up, my GFR has gone down to 40.

Hello Again,
This Nancy and I have had discussions before re my CKD3. I just got my blood work numbers and I'm disappointed. I can't give you exact numbers but my creatinine numbers have risen, my protein levels have risen, my GFR has dropped from (I believe) 44 down to 40. Also, for the past few days my urine output has slowed. I do see my nephrologist this Thursday but I am very worried. Any comments will be very much appreciated. : )

I did look mine up and it didn't look good. I'll just wait until Thursday to address all of my concerns. Thank you once again for your input. : )

I promised all of you an update after my doctor visit. First, I love my doctor, he is so friendly and he explains everything to me. He told me that most of my fluctuations are due to dehydration which affects many of my number changes. He took me off of one of my fluid pills and I need more bloodwork in two weeks to see how my numbers look. He is the best. Thanks to all of you for your help and for taking the time to give me your experiences with CKD3. : )

My creatinine has gone down and my GFR has dropped 10 points 48 to 38 in 8 months. I don't know why I am following a strict renal diet and my blood pressure is 118-72. I am. 80 years old in excellent health otherwise

@westwood I had the same situation. You might ask for a Cystatin C test for a different GFR. The creatinine based one is affected by muscle loss. My doc also ordered an echo to see if heart function was affecting kidneys.

Thanks so much for the info, I appreciate it. I did check this too and it was not too good either but my doctor doesn't seem too concerned so I am upping my water intake and get more blood work in a couple of weeks. Nancy

Hydration makes a huge difference. I hate drinking water so I use seltzer with a little juice 🙂

My creatine levels have been going up and my EGFR had been going down. My doctor said I needed to drink one gallon or 128 oz of water a day. I found it hard but then I started using nuun electrolytes in one of my 16 oz glasses and that helped me.

Kidney disease is hard to understand at times. You must have been a bit apprehensive with the drop to 38 while following a strict renal diet. Your BP is great. Can I assume that you do have a nephrologist (not meant to insult you). Since I found Dr. Yeh I am so much more informed about my CKD3. He explains every number and why it has risen or dropped. He did tell me how much hydration means so I have to take in 64 ounces of water daily (I will be floating between my-two -room apartment). : ) I wish you all the best and maybe be a little more kind to yourself and binge occasionally. I do food shopping every 2 weeks so I give myself 2 days worth of binging and then get back on track. : )

My heart tests were perfect Calcium, stress and echo tests were perfect. . Can't see my nephrologist till March 28. I'll be freaking dead by then. (In jest) but you get the picture. Total frustration
