I have been taking Guaifenisin for about 10 years, 600mg twice a day.
My specialist was OK with this as it certainly helps in expelling the mucous. Without it, I think I would cough even more.
I have not had any negatives from my pharmacists or doctors.

Guaifenisin is the ingredient in Mucinex ( sorry I didn't clarify.) I have it formulated, so I only get the ingredient that liquefies the mucous without the other things and the blue dye.

Mayo stopped the Mucinex for me. She discussed a couple other med changes, but that was on the instructions. It made sense to me because, unlike many of you, I don’t get sputum out. They tried inducing a sputum, but it was a poor specimen and I had a bronch to get the culture, which turned out negative except for penicillium (a surprise to them).
My pharmacist, puts the 'Guai' in capsules. Finding a "compounding pharmacist" is the trick.
I don't know if I can print the name and address; she is in BC, and I have the prescription sent to me across the country. Mailing across the border, for my American " Connect Buddies" may be a problem?.. would need to check that.
Does anyone know if I may print the contact information??

A google search will show compounding pharmacies near you. You need a prescription and the prescribing MD would probably know one.
Mayo has a compounding pharmacy that made my nasal spray. I also have a steroid for my NeilMed nasal rinse bottle from a compounding pharmacy in Philly, prescribed by an ENT doc at Penn Medicine.
If i catch a cold , i need the mucinex xr twice a day no matter what. Otherwise i dont use it.(it usually takes me 2-3 weeks to get over a cold these days. Since I have 5 little grands, Ive been on mucinex a lot. Next week I’m going to ask my new pulmonologist what he thinks.

Mucinex has been a real life saver for me!

How does one go about getting it formulated?
Thanks for your reply
