Moods and Parkinson's Disease

Hello @chrisj2491 @denie57 @johnjames @trouble4343 @ggopher @tntredhead @aperob @caryp43 @burgle @macbeth @knightkris @mariemarie @pjsammy

I recently received an email from the National Parkinson’s Foundation regarding moods as it relates to Parkinson’s. They are offering a free downloadable book regarding this topic, here is the website where you can find the publication http://www.parkinson.org/sites/default/files/NPF-Mood.pdf. You can also order a free paper copy of the book at http://www.parkinson.org/pd-library/books/Mood-A-Mind-Guide-to-Parkinsons-Disease. It contains some very good information regarding why people with Parkinson’s have problems with moods like depression, anxiety, irritability etc. and some helpful ideas for dealing with these moods, both with medicine as well as many self-help ideas.

Perhaps many of you have tried one or more of the suggestions in this publication. If so, please share with the group. We all learn from each other when we share our experiences.

Teresa

Still trying to put my arms around the diagnosis.

Hi Colleen- thanks for the note, I’m glad to be back- I was told I’m in stage 4 two weeks ago, it’s started when I could get up from sitting down in a chair for over 45 minutes. I guess that one of the side affects of stage 4. One things I would like to ask everyone with Parkinson’s- ” Do you suffer from leg pain???” Thank you- and if so , what do you do that helps. Thank you, JJAMES.

@Jjames I have missed you and said prayers for you during the past few weeks. Wasn’t sure if I was missing things or if things were not going well for you. My heart hurts for you but you have such a strong spirit. My Tom suffered from leg pain. – I think. He was unable to communicate but when II touched him, he hurt, I could tell. Nothing seemed to help him but he was at the beginning of the end. JJames, you are such a role model for all of us who have dealt with Parkinsons – in ourselves or someone we love – you are in my thoughts and my prayers. Please if I can help in any way let me know. I fee as if you are my friend because you helped me so very much by your kind words. Prayers, my friend, for healing acceptance, and no pain.

@tntredhead Thank you for still connecting with our Parkinson’s group, it is good to know that you still think of us. We certainly appreciate the kind care you gave to Tom. Teresa

Marie- it’s not easy, and after 3 years I still can’t-but that’s ok. We live each the best we can- spend time with friends and family and thank God we can see the beauty in the sky and the stars at night. You know when we were in battle -or on the battle field- at night in our fox holes we would look at the stars- and thank God for life. Hang in Marie- you will work through it in time- my prayers and friendship. JJAMES

@johnjames Hi JJames, No, I’m not in Phoenix and I feel for you with 109 degree temps, that sounds very difficult. I live in Michigan so while we might have temps in the high 80’s right now, it is definitely cooler. I have been doing OK. It is always good to hear from you, your post about the times in the military help us all to put our own problems in perspective and I thank you for that! I do agree that Mayo Connect is a great place for us all to meet, connect and support each other. I hope that your wife is doing better. I’m so glad that you are a part of our group! Blessings, Teresa

Marie- I thank you for writing and sharing such kindness to me- we all need to care for each other with kindness- even if we don’t know how the Parkinson’s is affecting us- and it is. at times it hard to get up the next day and drag the old body into the living room for coffee. But it’s because of folks like you who write and tell us what we are trying to do right and where we may be going the wrong direction-make sense I hope. Gods Blessings. JJAMES
