Does anyone take metoprolol and are you having bad side effects?

Heart surgery in February 2026. Prescription for 12.5 mg metoprolol twice a day. Tried and tried again but had to stop it. Dizziness. Anxiety. Panic attack requiring trip to the ER. I know it’s a small amount, but I’m gonna try to go without it for a month. BP during rehab is typically around 115/65 120/70 heart rate is in the 70s without the metoprolol.

Hi, sorry to hear about your pain. I took this medication once and got a splitting headache and NEVER took it again. I get migraines so I never want to take something that gives me one. Ask your doctor to switch it to some other medication. Hope you feel better.

@jungpeter Please let your doctor know. They may want you to take an alternative. I was given an alternative which didn’t bother me at all.

This discussion highlights that we are truly all different. We are walking chemical factories and drugs as well as their various dosages have unique effects on each of us. I was prescribed Verapamil before a septal myectomy and after the surgery had been taking 50mg Metoprolol SUCC in the morning. I don't believe I have side effects from the Metoprolol; I think the only way to find out is to be off of it for a while and compare. I take 50mg of metropole for atrial flutter. My heart rate slows by an average of 20 beats. I am more tired and need naps after workouts. My workouts are slower and my endurance is 25% less
