Metallosis patients / heavy metal poisoning specialist
To those of you who have experienced metallosis, did you seek out a heavy metal poisoning specialist to help you through? Or did your ortho know the procedure to follow?

Excellent advice and I'm certain you are spot on!!
The local doctor who agreed to revise them initially thought just the femor could be removed and re-use the Bimingham cup, making it a relatively simple operation.
I myself found out no one makes such a part for the Birmingham resurfacing system, so a complete revision would be necessary...Which I assume is why no one wants to do it.
I'm really wishing I had got on the BHR lawsuits...I've had nothing but pain and serious complications from these things.
Thank you for your reply!!
I have had my consult with my chelation doctor. My Mercury is very high. There are a few other metals that are above the normal range as well. None of those are associated with joint replacement. He believes my Mercury toxicity is associated with dental fillings. He suggests I have all my old fillings replaced with new ones. There's a YouTube video called Smoking Teeth that illustrate how Mercury vapors are released from fillings. Im going to continue with chelation as well until my metal levels are in the acceptable range.
So funny. No such specialist listed in my area. Heck not even ortho revision specialists are listed. You have to read the profiles to find those with the requisite experience and take your chances.
@bug3 Once I find profiles, I make phone calls. That is how I found my revision surgeon.

I believe if I need such a specialist, the burden should not fall to me, the patient, especially as a VA patient and such a specialty is required. The have a lot more resources. But thank you for responding.
@bug3 That is an interesting point of view. On the other hand, who has a greater interest in making sure you get the right treatment than you? And given current staffing shortages and budget cuts at the VA, who there has the time and expertise to find the right doc for you?
As we often say in the MAC and Bronchiectasis group (rare conditions that few docs treat properly) it is in your best interest to be your own advocate.
@sueinmn
I will agree to disagree. If you do harm, the burden falls to you. Patients, especially oldsters do not have support staff to devote hours in research nor the requisite expertise in knowing just how to take on the task. We do not get paid for those efforts. Championing our own health, yes but those clinicians and their staff have responsibilities beyond referring people to WEB sites.
