MAC Discovered after removal of non-small cell Lung Cancer
I would like to visit with anyone that has had a similar experience described below as to side effects that they have experienced with the big 3, cancer and MAC at the same time, physical impact and about the same size as I am 5ft 2in 102 lbs-(was 115) 81 yrs of age and high energy!!!! Thank you Bonnie- love to visit by phone… just send me a private message. In Faith- Bonnie
Symptoms - coughing up green brown mucus blobs right after surgery- first diagnosed as septic infection and residual from surgery, then couple months later staph- Z pack prescribed, improved, returned- Z pack- improved- returned. Two months ago biopsy final showed MAC…Now on big 3 with added salient. Nodule lower left lung 🫁, have had for years(have had 3 previous cases of pneumonia) lite up last PET scan along with new nodule lower left lung. Collective opinion is to let treatments for MAC continue for 6 weeks and CT scan to see if nodules reduce in size- then decide on continued treatment as MAC or new cancer nodule, Truly a complex situation. Please excuse file below - pushed wrong button!

Hi @mike1941, if I recall correctly, it is your wife who has non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and now MAC, right? It sounds like you got some answers to the questions you were asking back in March in this discussion:
- Pain lower right rib and cough after robotic lung surgery https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/pain-lower-right-rib-for-10-months-after-robotic-lung-surgery-and-coug/
Hers truly is a complex situation. I'm going to ask @merpreb and @sueinmn to join in the conversation for their thoughts too.
Is MAC the cause of her pain and persistent cough and sputum? Is she being seen by a large medical center with experts in MAC and cancer?
Thank you, and will ck the group you mentioned and also would truly enjoy visiting with the two people you mentioned. We are at UAB Birmingham and pleased with our oncologist, radiologist and pulmonologist. Friend at Mayo suggested Dr Pam Mc Shane UT health system for second opinion as did our pulmonologist here-,have an appointment in two weeks with Dr McShane since we are from TX and have friends in East TX… thank you and it is a journey and a daily roller coaster… In faith, Bonnie
Mike, please note I removed your personal phone number. I recommend not sharing personal contact information on a public forum. @merpreb and @sueinmn can respond to you here in this discussion. That way others can also chime in and offer ideas and support. Or perhaps someone else in the future will have a similar issue and benefit from the knowledge exchanged here.
👍❤️
Absolutely love Dr McShane. Brilliant and caring. Everything one expects from a doctor.
