Low WBC and neutrophils for 4 years — anyone else?
Hi,
I’m a 46-year-old female and have had low white blood cells on and off for about 4 years.
My lowest result was:
WBC 2.6
Neutrophils 1.1
Other tests over the years have shown WBC between 3.4–3.7 and neutrophils around 1.8–1.9, so this has been ongoing.
Haemoglobin and platelets have always been normal.
One test also showed NRBC 0.04, which was flagged, but no other abnormalities were noted.
I don’t get frequent infections, but I do feel very fatigued.
Has anyone had mild neutropenia like this for several years? Were you just monitored, or did it turn out to have a cause?

@mave1979 I am not medically trained to know why your WBC and neutrophils are low.
Mayo Clinic provides a summary about Neutropenia including definition, causes and when to see a doctor. I also found several related discussions by searching for ‘neutropenia’ at the Connect homepage. If you haven’t yet you may want to review these as you wait for others to comment.

You mention having both low WBC and neutrophils for the past four years. I am tagging @kgs1985 and @holmes4408 who have mentioned both and may have information to share.
Do you have symptoms that are bothering you, or other health issues you are managing? Have you had a chance to have a conversation with your doctor about your concerns?

1 ReactionHi there, I did talk with my doctor, and she mentioned we’ll just keep an eye on it. But you know, it’s been a bit on my mind because I’ve been feeling pretty tired lately, and I’m just curious about what’s going on. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar, and if it could be a sign of something more serious. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

1 ReactionI have similar readings on my WBC and neutrophils for around last 10 years. I had seen a hematologist and she ran some more tests and told me just to “keep an eye on it “ as well.
I repeat my lab every 3 months and it’s been yo-yoing up and down. I have no symptoms.
