It's been too long, but surely here and finally on the waiting list

Posted by @oohlalalita, Jan 8, 2017

Hello, I’m a patient here with Mayo, awaiting a kidney transplant God willing. I have been diagnosed with SLE/Lupus at the age of 19 which eventually transgressed into CKF chronic kidney failure, and lead me to 3x a week dialysis treatments starting at the age of only 23 w/no family support what so ever accept my loving younger sister”God bless her heart”.Don’t really know what to say, I’ve been sick most of my life but hopeful to succeed with a transplant inshallah/God willing:) If it weren’t for Mayo at giving me the guidance, and honesty to succeed I would not be here…I’m seeking hopeful stories, honest inquires, and truthful people to connect with…

@oohlalalita, we applaud your sister for being there for you. How long have you been on the transplant list?

@oohlalalita, My name is Rosemary. I am happy that you have come to Connect for support; I believe that you will find many stories of hope as our members read this discussion. You and your sister are fortunate to have each other.
I am a liver/kidney transplant recipient. I transplanted in 2009 at Mayo, Rochester. I was diagnosed with a liver disease which after nearly 8 years progressed to cirrhosis and end stage liver failure. During a spiraling, out-of-control, course of my disease, I suffered acute renal failure. I was on dialysis for around 8 weeks (3 days per week) up until my transplant. I am here to talk to you and to offer any support that I can from my experience.
Which Mayo Campus are you at?

Thank you for your thoughts and concerns, I actually got almost 7 years added to my wait time, hopefully that helps inshallah, this waiting time is a calling to my patience levels. One door closes a window of opportunity surely appears…

Hi Angelita – So glad you’ve found our group, welcome. Since you specifically asked about hopeful stories, I wanted to share a link to our Sharing Mayo Clinic blog. This link is filtered to show you transplant stories only, I hope you enjoy them and they give you the lift you’re looking for.

I was curious since you mentioned needing a kidney transplant, have you considered living organ donation? If you’re interested in learning more, here’s another resource that may be helpful:

Bless you for sharing your story. I can not even begin to imagine waht you are going through or have been through at such a young age, but I will tell you that you are in great hands. I have had many procedures and surgeries at Mayo in Rochester and always knew that I would be well taken care of, and treated with the utmost respect. I have a lot of respect for every person I have come in contact with there and trust them with my life. Good luck to you in your journey. You are in my thoughts and prayers, Amen..

Becky

I was on the transplant list briefly with one possible donor that didn’t look likely. When I was placed I also found out the direct cause of my particular kidney damage and was able to decrease the impact within a year. I was taken off the transplant list. I have been stable for over a year. I know that the damage will increase over time, and when it reaches the critical stage again, we will address it in the most appropriate manner. You are in the best place and I will you well. You deserve to feel good.

Oh indeed having a donor is wonderful but I’m B- and my possible donor is from South America and for some odd reason that invoices complications, but cross match is the next step. I have been blessed with 6.5 years of additional waiting time, so all it is pretty much just waiting for a phone call God willing:) I really appreciate your thoughts and concerns…ty

I am so sorry to hear this.. I do not have issues with my kidneys so I have nothing to offer except to say that I will be praying for your speedy recovery. Also to tell you I love you and I know a lot of people reading this feels the same way. Please keep this community posted of your progress and I know that you will have a lot of friends on this website pulling for you. Sinncerely, Fran Eaton

Hey rosemary hru?:) I’m actually weaning myself off of dialysis after a complete changed diet to veganism meditation warm compresses and natural pathic/holistic medicine I.e. all natural from our Creator….
I’ve been on zero blood pressure meds after weaning myself to 1/2 pill a day!! Almost 3 1/2 months of no bp needs …. And just wonderful blood pressures thanks be to God… Kidney failure is reversible …. And I am what many people have gone through…. Knowledge is power….

Take care rosemary

@oohlalalita, Thanks for your reply and wonderful news. You have provided an example of the positive effects of taking a proactive role in adopting a healthy life style. It sounds like your lifelong history of sickness and health issues is responding well.
Can I ask you a couple questions?
What does, ” I’m actually weaning myself off of dialysis ” mean. I assume your doctors are involved in this.
And
What motivated you to begin this plan?

Hi everyone I am new to this site. I am 17 mos post kidney transplant. After exhausting all my fiends and family with no match, I joined a matching donor group and within 2 wks found an altruistic donor. She gave me a new life. This whole process has certainly been a learning experience and the learning continues. If anyone is interested in this resource feel free to connect with me.
