Insomnia, depression, anxiety

Posted by azkidney57 @azkidney57, Jan 11, 2020

So here I am it’s 4 am I have been awake since 3 am I often wake up. I can’t go back to sleep. I can’t text my friends I could be they would ask why I was texting so early. I tried my usual sleepy time tea, Clonazepam, deep breathing etc etc and I still wake up! I remember when I was I in the hospital I would call the nurse and I would have morphine injected into my IV port and that would help me sleep. I can’t have morphine. OxyContin also made me sleepy. Can’t have that anymore I ran out. It would be so nice if I could get 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Maybe someday.

I take that too. I have extreme anxiety, insomnia and depression due to my husband’s cancer . Don’t take any other meds, if I may ask .

Can you use cbd product? I have had some success with some of the gummies. Am not sure, but I think the amount needed changes. From what I have heard, it's best to get 5 mg. gummies.

I usually sleep a lot and am still tired. Today I woke up around 3 am and can't go back to sleep. I am at my cousin's house a long way from home. We came to bring my sister some of her belongings that we didn't have room for when we brought her here. It wasn't working out at our house. She is a very negative person. Older than me and we are the only two of our birth family left.

She is doing very well at our cousins house, where she has a nice room and her own bathroom. She only "punched" me once, by which I mean a negative verbal attack. Not worth telling. I responded politely, without anger.

The problem is I feel like I'm suffocating. My cousin and her husband are wonderful and their house is very nice, clean and organized. Food is wonderful.

It may be that contrast from my house which I left with lots of boxes from sorting out my sister's stuff on top of our stuff I've been working on lessening for years. It may be because she won't talk to me about the $2500 she owes me & my husband for moving expenses. (Not worth telling the whole story.) It might be all the old childhood stuff she brings into the conversation.

Three more days before we leave. I've talked enough. thanks for listening.

I have 1 or 2 sleepless nights a month on average, and it’s affecting my work. My boss knows about the insomnia and is understanding, but I still feel guilty for calling out of work. Trazadone makes me feel too groggy. Does anyone know of any other sleep meds that don’t?

A combination of taking, near bedtime, Clonazepan (requires Rx) and Melatonin tabs works for me.

@aconcepcion981 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. How fortunate you have an understanding boss! If you feel you are not able to function fully, have you spoken to your doctor to find out what they might suggest? Do you know ahead of time when you will have a sleepless night? Is it the result of stressors in your life, have you been able to "pin down" the reason for those nights? Perhaps taking a close look at the situation may help you find some answers.

There are the tried and true remedies of no screen time after a certain point, no caffeine, no alcohol, etc. that you might look at, also!

Have you had a sleep study?

Do you know at all what triggers the suffocating feeling?

Hang on. Hopefully you will be able to decompress once you get home.

Yes, I have a CPAP which I have used for many years. Have a checkup coming up. That helps a lot.

I think part of it is the relationship with my sister. At 72 to her 76, I have finally stood up to her. In a sense, she has always looked out for me, with some disapproval at times. However, she has something negative to say about everyone. It may be just that we are visiting in my parents home town. I've already said that our hosts are without fault and lots of fun.

You are right. Things will be better when we get home. I have talked to one friend from home and that helped. My sister just doesn't have friends.

Thank you for asking these questions. The hug was helpful, too.
