I have just started taking Gabapentin to go along with lunesta.

I have been taking 3mg lunesta every night for awhile. However, I wake up a lot and sometimes have trouble going back to sleep. So I have now been prescribed 100 mg gabapentin to take at bedtime also. What can any of you who have experience with gabapentin tell me about that? Has it worked for you?

@toren123 , have you had an ophthalmological consult to examine your eyes since having blurry vision and taking Gabapentin? By the time my eyes got checked I was off the med and my vision was ok. I just wonder why it sometimes happens.

I have only been taking Gabapentin for 4 days, so no I have not had an eye exam. However ambien also caused blurry vision and after stopping it my vision returned to normal and my eyes were examined as I go to a retina specialist every 3 months. He told me that ambien tends to dry out the eyes. Perhaps Gabapentin does the same thing.

I have been reading these comments for a while and seem to have just the opposite problem as others. I sleep WAY TOO MUCH . This problem has been going on since I was sick over Xmas in 2003. It took me 5 yrs. just to get a diagnosis of Epstein Barr. As time goes by it has gotten worse and worse. I have struggled to get ANY medical assistance. It took me 4 yrs. to get my family physician to give me an order to check my thyroid even though both my parents had problems. Finally got it. NOPE…my readings are great. I had to have a temper tantrum with the doc to get referred to Sleep Specialist. So now I have been fighting with a sleep apnea machine. I have been on it a month + and most nights have slept 8 to 9.5 hrs. According to to the monitor on my watch , almost every day it tells me that my light sleep and deep sleep are about 50% of the time. That makes me believe I should feel much more energy and awake. Unfortunately, 3 to 5 hrs. later I feel as though I hadn’t slept in days and end up taking an 1.5 hr. to 2 hr. Nap and still wake up groggy.
Reading this info has lead me to discover Idiopathic Hypesomnia. The med they’re experimenting with sounded hopeful till I discovered it’s not recommended for those with heart problems ( I have a pacemaker and more recently an Afib operation. My Dad lived to 92 and spent the last 15 yrs. of his life with a similar problem and asking to DIE. I didn’t get it then but now I understand more. It’s difficult to live life while sleeping 12 of it.
Has anyone heard of anything else or any studies going on?

Oh, I see. Funny, I already have dry eye and take measures on a daily basis to treat it. Interesting….

Gabapentin is a scary med. It made me feel very weird. I would fall asleep, at any time, without warning. I wasn't even tired. One time I was going on my lunch break, and before I could put the key in the ignition, I passed out and woke from a call telling me I have been out for an hr and a half. I missed my whole break. I didnt get fired, because my boss understood, she was also on gaba! Please be careful, ok? I literally blacked out, I am happy the key didn't make it to the ignition and I turned it to drive.🥺

Yes. I already had it also. The ambien just made it worse, as does the Gabapentin. Ambien was the worst though.

Have any of you tried CBT-I for sleep issues ? Cognitive Behavior Therapy for
Insomnia. It has helped me tremendously! Find a qualified therapist in this area. No drugs - no problems.

I have tried it, but just recently. If a doctor had told me about it and where to find a therapist years ago I may not be on sleep medications today. But when I first went to a sleep specialist for insomnia in 2001, he prescribed temazapam and trazodone and I have been on sleep meds ever since. Today it’s Lunesta and Gabapentin. My CBT-I therapist said it wasn’t designed to get one off sleep meds but to help one sleep better whether on the meds or not. It helps somewhat but I’m still on the meds. I don’t even know where I could go for help to get off of them. But CBT-I seems to be a good program.
