I have 4.5 TAA and just had an A-Fib episode on 9/14

Hi, I have a 4.5 TAA and on 9/14 I woke up with my heart beating at 160 BPM (my normal heart rate is in the low 50s (hereditary). I went to emergency, they wired me up and took tests. All came back ok and my BPMs went back down about 3 hours later. They emergency room Dr. gave me Eliquis to avoid the possibility of a stroke. I now occasionally have a heart flutter, but otherwise I feel fine (I'm 70). I have an appointment to see my Cardio Dr. next week. Does anyone have experience dealing with A-Fib while they have a TAA? If so, how is your Dr. having you deal with it - any special medications, etc.

Sounds like you had a successful outcome. So happy for you!
I’m 74 and have ATTA (aneurysm on ascending aorta - think that’s the acronym) and I don’t have AFIB, only heart flutters on rare occasions. Hope you get some helpful feedback through Connect.

Hi there,

I (44/m) discovered my dilated aorta during an echo following hospitalization for AFib. So I can say - yes, and very recently. I was in the hospital for AFib in July, had an echo a week later and it was brought to my attention that I had a 4.3 ascending aorta and a 4.3 aortic root. I was referred to have a CT Angiogram which measured my aorta at 3.4 (!) and and my root at 4.1.

I am having an ablation in 2 weeks to address the AFib and SVT. As far as medication, I am on Flecanide to control rhythm and Diltiazem to manage rate. I am also taking Eliquis and a magnesium supplement.

If any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Good to see your TAA got smaller! The best test is a CT scan with contrast. I'm going to my Cardo Dr. next week. I'll see what he wants me to do. Good luck with the Ablation. Let me know how it goes. Thanks. Charlie
