I am 79 yrs old 4ft 11in with an ascending aortic aneryusm of 4.9.

Because of my size I am told I should have openheart surgert if it reaches 5.0.
I want to know if it is possible to do itbthru the groin and should I have it with a history of high bp and cholesterol and my mom had two strokes

As far as I understand (I'm not a Dr but it was explained to me by my Drs) Open Heart Surgery is the only way to repair an ascending aortic aneurysm. The proper way to repair it is by replacing the affected area of the aorta with an artificial graft, there is no other way to do that but having direct access to that area of the aorta, unfotunately that is only possible with the chest open. In my case my cardiologist explained that there is a small chance I may develop another dialation where the graft and the aorta were sawn together (it may take many years if it happens at all) in that case TVAR is an option, but not fo the repair of a critically enlarged aorta. Mine was done 5 years ago, it was found while preping me for leg suregry from a bike accident at 5.2 which was large for my body size, I had surgery 3 months after my leg surgery.

I hope that helps, find the best thoracic surgeon available to you and a cardiologist who specializes in aortic diseases, they would be able to explain the process and your options.

Doing it through the groin is under investigation - it has been in clinical trials. My understanding is that the limiting factor is the strength of the material available to repair the aneurysm with that method.
We have not looked lately but I will when have more time. The last I did look for this method I found a great review article by physicians/surgeons at Houston Methodist.
My husband is 81 and his aneurysm has been stable at 4.8-4.9. We do not want open heart surgery but it may become necessary. He was diagnosed in Jan 2021 and the aneurysm size has not changed to-date.
I will see what the status is by searching the Internet. You may want to do the same. I will get back to this list about what I find.

Dzień dobry,

niestety nie, jedyna możliwość to tylko operacja na otwartym sercu.
W Niemczech operują przy 5,5 cm albo jeżeli w ciągu jednego roku urośnie 10mm.
Pytanie jak szybko będzie posuwała się choroba.
