Holidays in the fog

Posted by Michele @micheleinok, Dec 6, 2017

I am a 51 year old woman with long term depression and now anxiety. I used to love the holidays, any holiday, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. It wasn't about the gifts, but more about everyone seemed to have a smile on their faces. Maybe I just had a smile so bright everyone reflected mine. Now it seems like I walk in a fog, blinking lights, people murmuring, hustle and bustle, but no one is happy, including me. I feel lost and alone when I'm surrounded by people. Not sure what to do to make the fog go away.

I have depression also...It is always lurking in the background. When it starts to overwhelm me I get out an old book called How to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie and it helps put things back in perspective....or I write the problems down and try to think how I can solve them. Doesn't help with everything, but sometimes little bits get you through...You are not alone.

HI, @micheleinok -- just saw your profile picture when doing a search. Wanted to see how your move is going and how you are doing. Is your hubby on board with the move at this point?

It is an interesting job. Training has been good, but I am ready to go home.
One benefit of the job, it's ever changing. You just never know what is coming up next.

Good for you! Yes variety in a job makes the days go faster.

When will you be leaving for home?
