High Coronary Calcium Score: How do others feel emotionally?

Posted by mcphee @mcphee, Dec 14, 2016

I have a calcium score of 1,950 which is extremely high which means I am at a very high risk for a cardiac event, heart attack, stroke or sudden death.

I take a statin and baby aspirin. I have never been sick, have excellent cholesterol, low blood pressure and I am not overweight. I have no other health problems and I have never been sick. But I feel like a walking time bomb which has caused me a lot of stress. I am 70 yrs old.

I wonder how others with this condition feel emotionally?

Without sounding to harsh, pharmaceutical company's make billions of dollars on drugs...when they realize there's money to be made. Then they'll get in on it, I have been using supplements for years, when I was on dialysis I was never in the hospital....you need to broaden your spectrum and do more research. There's p[plenty of information on these supplements, even on main stream, Harvard, mayo, and quite a few others, and most doctors, I should say some doctors will not tell you .

I agree that's why they don't tell you about Vit K2 and how it removes calcium from the arteries. Check out Dr. John Whitcomb seminar on Vitamin K2 / MK-7

Same boat Keith. 57 and I just had a CACS done yesterday. 1600. History of family heart disease. Doctor called me same day. Limit red meat and dairy. Double Rouvostatin to 20 mg. Consider my safe healthy, always worked out, pilot so I watch my health. Unfortunately, I'm in that gene pool. I'm now considering vegan approach to lower my CAC score. Time to educate myself.

Research on you tube how K2 / MK-7 pulls calcium from your arteries.....good luck.

Thanks to both of you for your posts! I found out in February I had a cac of 2200. I was 259 pounds at 53 years of age. Now 10 mo later down to 200. Passed the nuclear stress test and connected with a Bale-Doneen physicisn in Illinois. Am on 2.5 mg Crestor every other day and also on ramipril 2.5 mg daily. He did some genetic testing and found out I need to stay away from gluten. So eating a lot of vegetables and salmon! Thanks again for your posts it’s nice to remember that I am not in this alone.

So you had your last CAC test done in 2019. Are you thinking of getting another CAC in 2022 to see if there are improvements? Thank you

@perry1,

I was living in the SF Bay Area at the time and I don’t remember who the surgeon was. It was at a major medical center with a department specializing in thyroid surgery for cancer. My policy is to always seek at the best surgeon for surgery, even if I have to pay out of pocket or travel.

Also, my Coronary Calcium scored decreased from 199 to 18. The surgery helped plus taking vitamin K2 to help deposit calcium in my senior bones instead of in my heart. My home cardiologist said the Vitamin K2, not K1, was ok for me to take. And my vitamin D level is now 65; it was only 13 when I had the surgery.

Best of luck to you.

Hi @perry1,

I had one parathyroid gland removed for hyperparathyroidism by a surgeon who specializes in thyroid and parathyroid surgery 15 years ago. The incision was a very small incision through my neck and I recovered quickly without any side effects from the outpatient surgery. My tumor was benign and the scar is not visible today.

My parathyroid hormone level dropped immediately, but is started increasing a few years after. My endocrinologist did some more testing and my Vitamin D level was low. After I started taking Vitamin D, my parathyroid hormone level dropped into normal range and remains normal today. I think having a surgeon who specializes in this type of surgery is key. I was told at the time of surgery that the tumor could grow back or others could appear in other glands. So far, no problems.

Hope you do well.

Thank you so much. Who was your surgeon? In what state was surgery performed?

Hello @perry1

I appreciate your reply. I was not familiar with ARSA so I did a search, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/gene/410, and it appears that this involves neurological problems, perhaps on the order of MS. Is that the case?

As this seems rather rare, how was it discovered? Please share only as you feel comfortable.

Hello @perry1,

Hyperparathyroidism can affect many systems in your body. There is a description from Mayo Clinic's website. Here is the link, https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hyperparathyroidism/symptoms-causes/syc-20356194

Perry, are you currently having symptoms that relate to this disorder?
