High CAC score now lower

Posted by tlclimo @tlclimo, 1 day ago

3 years ago I had a heart scan. 2230 was the score. Visited a star Cardiologist and put me on nebivolol 5mg and raised my dose of crestor. Also on valsartan for BP.
Last week, went in for another CAC scan. 1600
Cardiologist says looks about the same. Continue with same regimen for meds.
Been working out a little every day 67 1/2 years old. Also about 20 minutes treadmill or 6k steps daily. Treadmill 2.1 mph.
Has anyone experienced a reduction in their score? Take daily vitamin K2 and co q 10 supplements.

ticlimo, the cardiologist I see has told me that you cannot reduce the CAC score, not with medicine, not with diet, not with exercise.
Your post is encouraging.

Interesting
I've been dealing with this for about 3 years. I will take another test probably in another 3 years to see progress or regress..
Even though I know 2300 and 1,600 are still high risk and probably unchanged as far as a cardiologist is concerned. Regimen will stay the same

ticlimo, my cac is in the four hundred I can't remember the plus part 480, maybe. The cardiologist said--"I'm surprised you aren't dead. " Maybe it's the distribution that makes me so close to death. Anyway, if I'm still alive in three years, I'll be interested in your results.

@gently That's an odd thing for him to say. 400 or 500 isn't a death sentence.

On supplementing with CoQ10 to counteract some undesired effects of statin usage, the latest results don't support the widespread use and recommendations. I saw a video by a grizzled older cardio-thoracic surgeon on YouTube who says he doesn't recommend CoQ10 because the evidence isn't there to support its use, certainly not as a counter to statins. Additionally, this:

I always advise people who ask me that experimentation by the individual often works better than any advice, provided it is based on empirical evidence....good solid science. It may work, it may not, but do it properly and give it a coupla weeks at least before shouting 'Eureka!' in the streets or throwing the rest of the bottle away. Follow directions on the bottle for dosage, and as always, do think long before discounting what your kind physician tells you. We don't always do a good job for ourselves of reminding of other prescriptions or problems that our experimentation might corrupt or negate in some way, but a conscientious physician will know to do that before every prescription change or new prescription. So should your druggist.

@njx58,
I asked him why I wasn't dead. I don't even have high blood pressure. He said my blood vessels weren't working the way they usually do. He may have looked at the wrong chart or may have been scaring me into taking meds. It could have been too many House episodes. I was scheduled with him, but spent the time with his fellow--who isn't going into cardiology.
If it were all in one vessel maybe it would be occluded. It made me laugh, but it could really scare someone. That was our first appointment and his opening statement.
You know graveside manner.
I do appreciate your reassurance.
