Xylitol gum, Biotene mouthwash, Salvia toothpaste, drinking water and coconut oil pulling is good for dry mouth. I hope this helps!

Mcion2, Coconut oil pulling was recommended to me by a dental hygienist. Buy a good brand of unrefined coconut oil. Put 1 teaspoon in your mouth and hold it for 20 min., (try 10 to start with if you can't do 20) swishing it around. Do not swallow it. Spit into trashcan as it can clog pipes since it "rehardens" again after sitting. Rinse your mouth well. This is good for your teeth, gums, killing bacteria & dry mouth. Be blessed!

Update. I went the Biotene products way for dry mouth. Toothpaste, mouthwash, lozenges, and mouth spray. Water and spray seem to be working. Does anyone know if Gabapentin or Cyclobenzaprine cause hair loss? I seem to be "shedding" a lot of hair. I have to figure out what in my body is doing that. I have started weaning off Gabapentin. Down from 3 100's to 2 a day for 2 wks then one tab for 2 wks. If my hair is still shedding then I will get off Cyclobenzaprine. My doctor says I had such a traumatic shock to my body and losing weight on WW she thinks hair is falling out because I am not getting enough red meat in my diet. I think it's those pills! We shall see. I can't have my hair falling out!

Your doctor might be thinking of low iron when she mentioned the red meat. Low iron can cause hair loss. And of course red meat has the best source of iron that our bodies can absorb. Also protein…hair needs protein. But if your diet contains these types of foods, that’s good. High cortisol (stress hormone) can negatively affect the thyroid causing it to slow down. Even though blood work shows normal, levels could still be low for you. We are all different. Drs need to consider symptoms and not just lab numbers. Anyways, just a couple of ideas.

My 87 year old mother has burning mouth syndrome, and with that comes extreme dry mouth.
Before her last doctor retired, she was doing monthly B12 shots. The new doctor says her labs show they are not needed. Maybe so, but my
labs show normal levels too, but I requested shots anyway, after having similar issues, and my doctor agreed, fortunately.
So I finally convinced Mom to try oral B12 supplements,
I am happy to report that her mouth has improved significantly, after a couple months of a high dose. You cannot overdose on B12. Good luck.

Me too. I find I'm always keeping sugarless lozenges within easy reach and water right next to me in bed. 🤔

I agree. I made an appointment with the doctor Monday. I want her to do a COMPLETE work up on me. She's never done that. I am trying to get in to see a dermatologist too. A referral from my doctor is needed. She is slow. Then they are so backed up I can't get an appointment until Septmber 7th! I can call every day to see if they have a cancelation then maybe I would be able to get an earlier appointment. It's just so frustrating! In the mean time my hair is unnaturally falling out. On the good side though I can say I am doing fine on weaning off Gabapentin and Cyclobenzaprine. I have three more days of two pills a day of Gabo then for a week one pill then none! I haven't been taking Cyclo. I will find out if it's the medicine I've been taking that's causing my thick hair to fall out then. Well thanks for letting me vent.

Dry mouth can also affect your teeth, so do get in for a dental checkup. I use ACT or Oral B mouthwash (xylitol, no alcohol) and it gives me relief for several hours. I brush twice daily, using an electric toothbrush and/or a waterpik. You can massage your salivary glands on your lower jaw to see if you can activate them. However, coughing could be something else, so check in with your doctor, too. I have the biotene dry mouth lozenges, spray and I think there is a "paper" tab that you can use instead. Chewing gum helps too.

Has Mom tried Miracle Mouthwash? I get the RX through my compounding pharmacy. It stings a bit (nystatin) and does the trick for me.
