My 87 year old mother has burning mouth syndrome, and with that comes extreme dry mouth.
Before her last doctor retired, she was doing monthly B12 shots. The new doctor says her labs show they are not needed. Maybe so, but my
labs show normal levels too, but I requested shots anyway, after having similar issues, and my doctor agreed, fortunately.
So I finally convinced Mom to try oral B12 supplements,
I am happy to report that her mouth has improved significantly, after a couple months of a high dose. You cannot overdose on B12. Good luck.

I don’t know why doctors don’t pay more attention to symptoms. They seem to rely on the lab numbers only. Glad to hear the supplements worked for her!

What is considered a high dose of B12? Because I have dry mouth and it is very irritating. I am constantly drinking and going to the bathroom because of it. Please help me.

Melanie164, Bless your heart. I actually get the injections as they get the B12 up quicker. Before that I was on 5,000 mcg of Methylcobalamin sublingual B12 by Solgar (Amazon) 1 tablet a day. B-Complex does not have enough B12 in it to get your B12 back up. My primary doctor wanted me on the injections. Initially, I got one injection twice monthly and now I get 1 injection a month. My B12 was back within the normal range after 1 month. My symptoms of low B12 have been: Extreme fatigue, metallic taste in my mouth and peripheral neuropathy symptoms in my arms, legs & feet. I feel much better now that my B12 is up. I'm so sorry. The dry mouth stuff has to be so frustrating. Blessings & Prayers.....

I am also having a problem with my tongue getting sore. Do you have that problem too?

I don't have that. Do you mean like a canker sore kind of thing or something else? 🤔 I did bite my tongue a few times and I got something like canker sores.

If you supplement with B12, be sure it’s the sublingual form of MK-7. Many people are unable to absorb the b12 through the stomach. I take 5,000 mcg a day. I have in the past, taken 10,000, but once a blood test showed my level was up, I cut back. It’s water soluble, so you pee out what you don’t use. I have been buying mine at Costco and I seem to be absorbing it just fine.
