Have you been told no to hrt if you are 10+ years post menopause?
Starting hrt 10 years post menopause and the flawed Women's health initiative study.
I have been told no and yet the current findings seem to indicate that hrt can still help.

Thanks, @dvargo. Yes, I know how flawed the 2000 report was. But my understanding is that estrogen patches (ie. absorbing through skin) can prove a stroke risk. So I don't understand why a cream would be safe.
My understanding is that patches and pellets release hormones directly into the blood stream thereby bypassing the liver making them a safer delivery system.

1 Reaction@gravity3, thanks for weighing in. I guess the issue is "safer" vs. "safe." There's a big difference!
The case-control study by Renoux and colleagues is the first major analysis to compare transdermal and oral hormone therapy and conclude that, compared with an increased risk of stroke with oral therapy, there was no increased risk with transdermal treatment at a dose of 50 microg or less.

5 ReactionsWhen you speak of the cream, do you mean the vaginal cream, like Estrace?
Or the patch?
It would be interesting to know the age of study participants. I am 10 years past menopause and would like to start back on the patch.

1 ReactionIm right at the 10 year marker, and I just started a low dose estrogen patch... if you do a Google search about postmenopausal estrogen patch low does has been shown to help decrease bone loss in even yes us postmenopausal women..its not a fix. But I felt its giving me a fighting chance to help myself on the rebuilding of bone..there one out there just for osteoporosis it a .14 mg patch...and there's a low dose of0.025. That's little higher but said to also help with hot flashes. Night sweats? I also started taking native path collagen with fortibone... reservshows that fortibone help increase the osteblast that's what we need to rebuilding bone? You can also search menapause society they are slow to get her but started to look into women's over all well being after menapause and how hrt oukd be helpful

1 ReactionI also read that the patch or basically topical where safer didn't have to go though you liver..yes there a risk but much lower the the pill form.. and everything in life has a risk.. the medication from big pharmaceutical companies have a risk too..and blood clots was one of them.. and their drugs to to help rebuild bone has the risk of causing fractures? That's messed up and very flawed.. so I'll take the risk of bio identical her patch.. estrogen my body should recognize this? We can try our best and God will do the rest..
