Have you been told no to hrt if you are 10+ years post menopause?

Starting hrt 10 years post menopause and the flawed Women's health initiative study.
I have been told no and yet the current findings seem to indicate that hrt can still help.

@gravity3 have you considered a SERM like raloxifene?

I had hormonal breast cancer. I would assume risk of that goes up with age, regardless of whether that study is valid or not.

I am 16 years post menopause (age 71) and my gyn told me that she would only prescribe if I received a written clearance from a cardiologist. My gyn was concerned about blood clots. My cardiologist would not commit to a written clearance.

Same with my doctor. Identical reasoning.

This what I have been dealing with too.
I have an appointment with a functional medical group since my PCP, endocrinologist and an ob/.gyn. would prescribe her or even a bit of testosterone for me. They will not act as a pcp but they do take Medicare and some supplementals such as united health. Insurance will not cover the cost of hormone pellets at $350 every 3 months. It seems to me that many docs are clinging to the "findings" of the flawed Women's Health Initiative flawed findings. It seems laughable to me when we are then asked to accept some of the osteoporosis meds. Oh, and let's not forget the first offerings of birth control meds way back when. I am 76

I am going to ask my PCP and Endo if their recommendations are based on the flawed Women's health initiative study that was not completed

I’m 11 years past menopause. Have been told “yes” by two cardiologists, one of them specializes women’s cardiac health. Gyn and pcp are okay with it, endo is okay with it if everyone on the team agrees. Will see a post menopausal specialist for further evaluation and consultation.

Congratulations! I'll be curious to hear how it goes for you. Are they using hormone pellets?

I'm 2 years post menopausal but I'm 62 and carry factor V leiden which can cause blood clotting. All 3 medical practioners including functional medicine aprn do not feel comfortable prescribing ultra low dose transdermal estrogen. My pcp says absolutely NO WAY! Yet, my bone consultation with Dr. Keith McCormick says my main cause of osteoporosis is loss of estrogen and taking it transdermally will help maintain good bone health. He recommended finding a study with people like me with this inherited gene deficiency but so far have not seen anything reputable or with information I can't understand.

My gyno says there would be no upside and only possible side effects. The Nurse Practitioner I see as my primary and who specializes in bioidenticals says she would have to increase the hormones at such incremental levels I wouldn't see any possible benefits for years. I am 66, don't know exactly when menopause started. Maybe 10-12 years ago. All I get is scare stories.

I am 73 and have been on HRT for at least 8 years, started them about 15 years post menapause. The difference was amazing in how I felt on the HRT. I use a topical cream I apply daily to my inner thigh and take progesterone capsule at night. Have had no problems.
