Has anyone had severe nonstop ringing in ears after COVID?
I’m posting on behalf of someone very close to me, Maurice, who has been dealing with severe and persistent health problems following COVID.
His condition has significantly affected his quality of life, and despite seeing multiple doctors, specialists, undergoing extensive testing, and trying different approaches, we still have not been able to find an effective treatment or a clear explanation for why his symptoms have continued.
Some of his symptoms are extremely intense and persistent, particularly neurological and balance-related symptoms, along with other physical symptoms that began or became significantly worse after COVID. At times, the severity has been overwhelming and has made normal daily life very difficult.
We are now trying to connect with other people who may have experienced a similar post-COVID condition.
Has anyone here experienced severe, persistent neurological or vestibular symptoms after COVID that lasted for years? If so, were you eventually able to identify what was causing them or find a treatment that significantly improved your symptoms?
We would especially appreciate hearing about specialists, Long COVID programs, testing, medications, or other treatments that genuinely helped you.
Even if your symptoms were not exactly the same, I would be very grateful to hear about your experience and what finally made a difference for you.
Thank you so much to anyone willing to share.

Known as Tinnitus. Now I'm no Doctor, but you should contact a Professional, to Diagnose the Condition. It could be caused by multiple things.
Yes, it is tinnitus and it is ever present. I find that when I have a lot of inflammation it is louder. I believe it to be a central nervous system issue caused by inflammation. I take Ibuprofen 800 mg (prescribed) and that helps when I feel the malaise, and other factors I believe to be caused by the inflammation LONG COVID causes. Hang in there.

3 Reactions@diverdown1 Watch out for taking Ibuprofen or Aleve. Known for actually contributing to tinnitus. So many medicines, supplements are said to contribute to tinnitus but amazing how they can't figure out how to help it. Watch reducing your sodium intake.(which can cause inflammation)Check to see what it is first. My ENT had me on 1200mg per day for inflammation. My sodium went below normal, which is dangerous also. Trying to get it back to above. Mine ran on the low end of normal anyway.

1 ReactionI have abnormally low electrolytes (sodium, potassium and magnesium) with long covid so have to supplement in my water all day long. If I do not, my tinnitus gets even louder than normally. I have not found anything that ends the tinnitus.

1 ReactionThere is no cure but several things could contribute to it. Some days better than others , mostly horrible sounds. Don’t understand the inflammation since my sodium is 4 points below normal. Drinking electrolytes but have to watch getting too much magnesium which causes diarrhea. On my third recheck of sodium since second one was even lower. Very frustrating. Watch reading cures online. Fake information trying to get your money.
@diverdown1 Hi there from Suefish. I’ve had the ringing since I’ve had Long Covid. What a pain! Good luck and good wishes to feel better!

1 ReactionYes, tinnitus. Some days I feel as if my ears are screaming at me. Along with the “ringing”, I also often hear “ticking”. Maybe another presentation(?)
I went in for my “Welcome To Medicare 😛” hearing test. I have a ‘normal’ decline in hearing and it was suggested hearing aids could be a definite help.
This is the important part of my comment… I was given a pair of hearing aids to see the difference (it really was amazing, just not $3000-$5000 out of pocket worth of amazing. ) In the 5 minutes I had the hearing aids in I noticed the tinnitus was gone. The doc said that hearing aids are used to treat tinnitus. I never knew that. Interesting. That’s why I mention it here.
Maybe you didn’t know it either. Another tool to put in the toolbox.

1 Reaction@jrg200911 that's amazing! thank you for sharing! how long did you have the tinnitus? also are the hearing test still working for you or it worked only for a certain period? the person that has this condition is really extreme, he describes it a constant fire alarm!
Anything else that you can share would really be so helpful! we are running out of options here..
Thank you!
@gnana6 thank you for your reply! just to confirm, you are saying that low sodium can cause tinnitus or make it worse right?
@suefish I'm sorry to hear this, I know it's painful... did you ever find something to help manage the ringing?
