Has anyone had a 5-day EEG in a hospital?

Posted by tonyde @tonyde, Jun 10, 2025

I am scheduled for a 5-day EEG in Tampa General Hospital. My first reaction was one of excitement; the first step to putting my seizures behind me. That excitement is turning into trepidation; everything from the impact on my health to impact on my wallet. There's a health risk to triggering a seizure and potentially a huge copay with a Medicare Advantage Plan.

Has anyone had one done? What's the good, bad and the ugly of a 5-day EEG?

It's 6 months in Florida, I had a really bad seizure last week, that put me on a 6 months no driving schedule

Hi @tonyde
I can completely understand you. Recently, I was almost 8 months seizure-free and celebrating that milestone when a bad seizure hit me this past August, requiring hospitalization.
As for my driving license, I have to start the waiting period from scratch again, though I honestly don't have much expectation of getting my license back. I've found ways to adapt my routine using other transportation options and have come to accept this reality.
However, I certainly don't feel like I'm starting from scratch in other respects because of this seizure. Those 8 months were the longest seizure-free period I've had since my epilepsy diagnosis, and I remain deeply grateful for that time.
How have you been feeling since your last seizure episode? Please be kind to yourself during this time.

Hi Chris, I'm doing OK, a little beat up and bruised. I won't let it get the best of me. My seizure meds were doubled for a couple of weeks. Dropped to my original dosage yesterday. I'll take that as a win.

Good Morning @tonyde
I'm so glad to hear you're doing well and not letting this seizure event get you down 💜.
It's wonderful news that you're able to return to your original AED dosage. That's definitely a significant milestone worth celebrating!
Let's keep moving forward together and finding joy in all the good things life has to offer.
Chris
