Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra, Volunteer Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)
  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful
  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle’s full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven’t yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

Today i am grateful for a safe trip that ended yesterday. Grateful for our little rescue kitty who remained glued to me all night. And grateful for a warm house this morning, it is 40 outside!

@hopeful33250 Also grateful for my very own group of cheerleaders. Said with sincerity. Uh-oh, leaning towards sappy again. I will also be thankful when the barometric pressure settles down. Back to the drawing board. Designing a coloring page just for fun. Snuggled with my drawing board, blanky and rice bag. The simple things in life. Oh and a cup of green tea.

@parus I set a couple of goals for myself today, like dumping one more bag of little stones in my patio to even everything out. Got laundry done from the trip, and part of house cleaned. Then will settle down with some Zentangle work. Later I have to get the scarf finished [crochet] for the ministry. I am grateful to be busy, but can't have that chocolate. Have a piece for me!

Hi @sore_debbie64 – Welcome to Connect! And welcome to our little Gratitude Group. I love the idea of a foot massager. I'm scheduled for knee replacement next month and I may just treat myself to one. At least I can pamper some part of my lower extremities! LOL. Any particular brand you recommend?

@parus A very cool design. Thank you for sharing the design with us. Sure, I'll do laundry for you. Funny that is something I don't have issues with, until a pocket doesn't get emptied ;)))

@parus – I LOVE the zentangle turtle! So creative. And @gingerw – I'm admiring your determination. I, too, tackled some chores today, but I don't think I was as successful as you were. Today, I'm grateful that I have stuck to healthy eating all day – no sweets. (This was no small accomplishment after spending all Christmas week indulging!) Also, I have an upstairs bedroom that has become a total junk room – just a staging area for Christmas. I'm grateful that today I was able to make the tiniest dint in organizing the mess. It's one of those situations where it looks worse this evening than when I started this morning, but there is a method to the madness and I'm hoping to get it all organized so that I can put Christmas away neatly after my son & DIL visit in January.

Today I am grateful to have made it to today. Tomorrow starts a new year, with the joys and issues that can come along at any time. But for today, I worry not about that. Tomorrow will take care of tomorrow. Wishing all good to everyone.
