Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra, Volunteer Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)
  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful
  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle’s full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven’t yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

@lioness Good to know you are feeling better today. Do you feel like an over inflated ballon and itch like crazy? This fibro stuff is so unpredictable. I mentioned this to the primary and was told it was dry skin. They just don’t get it. My skin is not dry. When it comes to fibro I no longer mention symptoms. If I took Lyrica I could go the carnival and have fun. Commercials are so much ka-ka.
Another new year approaching. Remember all of the panic over 2000?

Today I'm grateful for 2018 with all of its challenges and accomplishments. I'm especially grateful for all of you, my cyber friends that share around this table at Connect. I hope we all have a good 2019 with continued sharing, encouraging and hopefulness!

True about 2018 being filled with challenges. 2019 is being ushered in with high winds. Thankful for a safe haven.

I'm so glad we are staying home this evening. We were going to meet friends but they needed to cancel. As cold and windy as it is I'm not too sad about it.

In my time zone, we are about 5 minutes away from 2019. I'm grateful for what I have learned in 2018… and I'm grateful for the opportunity to try again in 2019 – to get some things right that I didn't before.

Wishing you all the very best for 2019. I'm truly grateful to have you all – my friends in this Gratitude Group. You are THE BEST! Sending every one of you love, hugs, and happy new year wishes!!

@debbraw You too and others here who have been helpful in 2018. May we continue to learn and grow in 2019. Nice to be remembered. Cyber space works in mysterious ways. Dick Clark you were missed.

Today I am grateful for this warmish house, as it is under 40 degrees outside. Thankful also for the cyberfriends here on Mayo Connect, for the wisdom imparted and wide shoulders of support. Here is to a beautiful 2019.

Sorry I missed the party. I am thankful my little sister is retiring to FL with her hubby. I am happy for her. It would be nice to hear from her other than just Holidays. New Year’s greeting with picture of her happy world. This hurts me deeply. I am thankful for my cyber friends. I am so happy for her and so sad too. Why does she do this to her big sister?? I tell myself she means well. I did not respond to her glitzy text. I am starting my 2019 with caring people. Thankful all of you are here. She calls me toxic and for now I am. It will be okay.
