I could have gotten excused due to age, or with a note from my doctor. I was the only one masked, unfortunately. And told people right up front, that I was being anti-social because I didn't want their germs! One fellow juror said she couldn't understand me because my mask was making it difficult for her, so the suggestion was for her to move next to me. No way was I going to unmask!

BTW, I use a cane to walk, and had to enter the "well" to get to my seat, because of the steps up into jury box. I apologized to the judge the first time, and he gave me carte blanche to access/exit my seat however was needed.

Wishing you luck!
Ginger

Thanks @gingerw for sharing a valuable experience, We also live in an environment where Mask is not well accepted, its a perspective so we just IGNORE it. Both my wife & I wear a mask ( mask choice dependent on how much of a potential risk .. regular mask which is 60% effective or the 3M mask which is above 90% effective.) sounds strange ... life goes on ...we cannot subscribe to ignorance or whims and fancies.

@l0lag0lag0b3, I want to thank you for posting this discussion about jury duty. It is something that I have wondered about, but have not been called for jury duty since my transplant. In my pretransplant life I was called, but never actually sat on a case.

Will you keep us updated on your experience?

Yes absolutely, currently I have secured an extension upto Feb 15th with the Court Clerk's office, by that time I have to submit a Dr's letter requesting permanent exemption from Jury Duty.

Yesterday I forwarded a Dr's letter to the Court Clerk's office seeking permanent exemption from Jury Duty & if there were any questions the Court Clerk's office could call him back. Here is the response from the Court Clerk's office:

Hi. I sent a letter from my transplant hospital saying due to transplant and immunosuppression as well as side effects from meds, that I cannot be relied upon to show up on any given day. Never got asked to serve jury duty again. Good luck.
