Getting off of Seroquel

Posted by anniegk @anniegk, Jun 8, 2018

I have been on 300 mgs. Seroquel ER for over a year for augmenting my antidepressant which is 45 mgs. Of Mirtazapine. I decided to try and get off of the Seroquel. I was on 300mgs ER (extended release). I titrated down to 250 mg ER for 2 months without too many problems.than i titrated down to 200mgs ER just 5 days ago. My plan is to try to titrate off using ER tablets. My thinking is that perhaps the drug will remove its self from my system more gradually. I have had some nausea and a couple of episodes of diarrhea. I also have a very irregular heart beat and was started on 60 mgs of Propranolol ER (extended release) 4 weeks ago. It seems to be helping my heartbeat. I have wondered if the nausea and light headness is from the Propranolol, a Beta Blocker, or the dose reduction of the Seroquel. I also wonder if the way iam titrating the Seroquel is safe. My doctor says it will only take a couple of weeks...I think that is too fast of a taper after being on a drug for over a year. What do you think?

Oh, dear Heart, my goodness, I’m so sorry to hear this news about Michael and especially now since you can’t even be with him for support. You two have been through so much together!

Has Michael been having symptoms that put him in the hospital and then he was diagnosed yesterday? It sounds like the full body scan will taken to make sure the cancer hasn’t spread. You must be beside yourself with worry.

Are you doing ok? Please try to keep positive thoughts. I know you’ve been working so hard on your anxiety control and making huge progress. Make sure you take that time daily for your head-clearing walks. It’s more important now than ever.

It goes without saying, my friend, you are both in my thoughts and prayers for the best possible outcome for the scan on Monday and for strength and healing. 🙏 I wish I could reach through this computer and embrace you for support. I hope you’re family is gathering around you for support as well.

Please keep us posted here as you know more. Love and peace to you…

If you read all the inserts you’ll probably steer clear of everything. I have found Seroquel to be very helpful for myself. The doc however should never refused your calls. That person is copping out because they don’t know how to do their job. Find another doctor.

I had to find a new doctor. I didn’t just read the inserts, I researched thoroughly and especially took into consideration other users comments on this drug. I’m not taking an antipsychotic when I’m not physchotic.

Thank you much for your continuous support
In March he was diagnosed with diabetes
In 12weeks I reversed it
We were both very proud
2weeks ago i noticed him a bad colour
Got COVID test..negative
Last Monday still not great and no appetite ,energy or taste, got another COVID test
Again negative
He takes such care of himself
Non smoker
Very little alcohol
And ate so healthily with all his nice garden produces..which is breaking my heart now to look at
So on Thursday,I called the emergency services, the ambulance came and brought him in
Scope done on Friday
Then the consultant called me to see him in his office
Never a good sign
I was called in35years ago after his accident
So I knew the news was not good
God help him
Keep us in you thoughts
My 4daughters are here
Trey are heartbroken too
Bye x

Aw, golly, this just stinks. I swear there’s no rhyme or reason for when cancer strikes. It’s so unfair when someone has taken such great care of themselves through diet and healthy life habits. And you’ve both worked so hard since his accident to have the best life possible. Reversing his diabetes was phenomenal! How did you do that???

Michael’s overcome huge obstacles over the past 35 years so he’s definitely a fighter. You both are! We’ll hope and pray that this cancer was found early and he can overcome this too!

But I know you’re frightened and your heart is breaking and you’re being pushed to the limit emotionally. I’m so glad your daughters are there with you and each other for comfort and support. They have witnessed the strength of you and Michael over the years so that has to be inspirational for them to know there is no giving up!

This is a long weekend of waiting and hoping. I know it’s painful, but spend time in Michael’s garden. It will keep you close in heart and you can report back to him what goodies and treasures you were able to harvest.

You are most definitely in my thoughts and prayers, dear heart. XOXO

My doctor has such faith in my when the diabetesis was diagnosed that I would be able to reverse it
I told her it would be so difficult due to the no walking
Not so. she said and advised Michael to use the dumbbells
Which he did
So he cut out potatoes
Crisps chocolate carrots(too s sweet) and bread
Lots of fruit fish and chicken
I read dr Michael Mosley book
She was great support and I wanted to prove we could do it and we did
Visiting his greenhouse was just too much
All his things there😢
I’m at a loss what to do
I’m just so sad and so sad for him too
Thank you again for support and kindness x💖

Look at the obstacles you’ve helped Michael overcome! Don’t give up now. I know you’re feeling so sad and heartbroken. But he is still with you and together you’ll take on this new challenge ahead.

Wait for the scan on Monday and any further news it might bring. It may not be the worst news you’re fearing. Either way, give his medical team a chance to gather a treatment plan and then take things from there. They may be able to get him back home to you while undergoing treatments.

Remember the only thing stronger than fear is hope! You are so strong and always filled with hope so don’t falter now, my friend. 🙏🧡

HearttoHeart, I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I wanted to let you know that there is an Esophageal Cancer group here on Mayo Clinic Connect where you can connect with others:

- Esophageal Cancer https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/esophageal-cancer/

There's also a monthly support group that you can attend on Zoom for patients and caregivers. You don't have to be a Mayo patient to attend:
- Esophageal Cancer Support Monthly Meeting https://connect.mayoclinic.org/event/esophageal-cancer-support-monthly-meeting-104/

Sending you my thoughts and a virtual shoulder to lean on when you need it.
